Indonesia is set to establish its first-ever tidal energy plant in collaboration with national electricity company PLN and Hydrowing, an international clean-energy developer. The project is strategically located in the tidal channels of Indonesia’s coastal areas, which offer strong tidal currents, an ideal resource for consistent, renewable energy generation.
Expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut dependence on fossil fuels, this plant supports Indonesia's goal of achieving a 23% renewable energy mix by 2025. Using Hydrowing's proprietary technology, the project will harness tidal flows, converting ocean currents into reliable electricity. This initiative also marks a progressive step towards enhancing energy access in remote Indonesian regions, making a sustainable impact on the country’s power grid and setting an example in Southeast Asia for tidal energy use.
