Bank Indonesia is promoting partnerships between corporations and micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) to accelerate financial intermediation and support higher, more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The initiative was highlighted by Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Thomas A.M. Djiwandono at a talk show held at JICC Jakarta (20/8).
The talk show, titled “Accelerating Intermediation to Encourage Corporate Partnerships and Help UMKM Move Up the Business Ladder,” was part of Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2026.
The event was organized by Bank Indonesia in cooperation with authorities and UMKM stakeholders and carried the theme “Beudaya Meusare Sare,” meaning “Empowered Together.”
Thomas said strengthening UMKM is important to make financial intermediation more productive and strengthen sources of economic growth.
“UMKM that grow can become medium-sized businesses, and medium-sized businesses that continue to grow can become new Indonesian corporations,” Thomas said.
He said UMKM need to continue improving productivity, using technology, expanding markets and connecting with broader business ecosystems.
Corporate Partnerships Connect UMKM to Supply Chains
The Gerakan Korporasi Gandeng UMKM connects UMKM with corporate supply and value chains through partnerships.
Through these partnerships, UMKM can gain access to corporate markets, networks, technology, experience and business standards.
These resources can help UMKM improve productivity and business capacity.
The partnerships can also provide wider access to markets and financing, allowing UMKM to continue developing and move up the business ladder.
Bank Indonesia is implementing the initiative at KKI 2026 through activities including business matching.
The program targets Rp446.9 billion in turnover and export business matching, as well as Rp212.8 billion in financing business matching, including green financing.
Government Strengthens Support for UMKM
Bank Indonesia is calling on stakeholders to strengthen optimism, collaboration and concrete action.
The effort is intended to support an ecosystem where small businesses have opportunities to grow, corporations develop together with their business partners, and financing flows to increasingly productive economic activities.
Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung said the government continues to strengthen support for UMKM through affordable financing, tax incentives, and easier export and market access.
“UMKM do not only move up the business ladder when they receive financing, but also when they gain market access, increase capacity, and build partnerships. Therefore, synergy among authorities, corporations, financial institutions, and UMKM is key,” Juda said.
KKI 2026 Brings Together Authorities, Banks and UMKM
The talk show featured Bank Indonesia Head of the Macroeconomic Policy Department Solikin M. Juhro, Financial Services Authority Deputy Commissioner for Licensing Regulation and Quality Control Deden Firman Hendarsyah, and Ministry of Industry Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries Reni Yanita.
The event also included BRI SEVP Institution Business Suyitno and Asep Winazar, an entrepreneur in kitchen equipment manufacturing whose UMKM has entered export markets and adopted digital business practices.
The speakers shared perspectives and practices on corporate-UMKM partnerships and how financing can support UMKM development and growth.
Representatives from ministries and government institutions, academics, banks and non-bank financial institutions, associations, UMKM and industry players also attended.
Bank Indonesia is calling on stakeholders and corporations to strengthen financial intermediation for the real sector, particularly UMKM.
Through the Gerakan Korporasi Gandeng UMKM, Bank Indonesia expects more UMKM to connect with value chains, gain access to markets and financing, and grow into stronger businesses.
