Indonesia faces a growing challenge of youth unemployment, with approximately 3.5 million young people currently without jobs. Despite a booming digital economy, many graduates struggle to find work that aligns with their educational qualifications. A significant barrier to employment is the mismatch between skills acquired in university and the demands of the job market. Only 25% of graduates are able to secure roles that match their degree. Maxy Academy, a fast-growing edtech startup, is tackling this problem head-on.
Founded by seasoned education executive Isaac Munandar, Maxy Academy offers innovative solutions to the education-to-employment gap. The academy aims to provide digital career bootcamps, focusing on in-demand fields such as cybersecurity, content creation, and UI/UX design. These bootcamps are specifically designed to give students practical skills that are immediately applicable in the workplace.
Maxy Academy’s approach is rooted in AI-powered tools that personalize the learning experience. Using AI, the platform tailors educational pathways to each student’s needs, helping them learn at their own pace while targeting their unique career goals. A virtual AI mentor is available to guide students, offering real-time feedback and advice. The platform also includes talent-matching AI that connects graduates with employers, improving their chances of landing a job that matches their new skills.
The company’s AI tools have already proven effective, with over 1,500 students trained in its digital career bootcamp. Completion rates exceed 80%, indicating that students are not only enrolling but also finishing the programs with success. Maxy’s partnerships with over 250 universities and 100 companies across Indonesia help it deliver these programs at scale. Students can even earn up to 20 university credits for completing Maxy’s training programs.
Maxy Academy’s team consists of experienced entrepreneurs, including CEO Isaac Munandar, who previously led Vita School and co-founded Koding Next, one of Indonesia’s largest coding schools. Chief Technology Officer Andy Febrico Bintoro, who founded Toro Developer Universal, an IT consultancy, complements the team’s deep knowledge of technology and education.
Financially, Maxy Academy has shown strong growth. In 2023, the company earned $150,000 in revenue and expects that number to grow to $1 million in 2024. Maxy employs a variety of revenue streams, including training and certifications, digital career bootcamps, B2B subscription fees, and talent placement services. Looking ahead, the company aims to raise a preseed round to grow its revenue to $5 million by 2025.
As Maxy Academy expands, it will continue to build upon its strategic partnerships and its AI-powered learning platform to help young Indonesians navigate the complexities of the modern job market. By targeting specific challenges faced by students in Indonesia, Maxy Academy is positioning itself as a key player in Southeast Asia’s rapidly evolving edtech space.
