Indonesia and Germany strengthened bilateral cooperation in quality infrastructure through the 3rd High-Level Indonesian-German Annual Meeting on Quality Infrastructure held in Jakarta to support the competitiveness of Indonesia’s national industry and expand export market access (07/05).
The meeting was organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry through the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI). The forum involved representatives from the governments of Indonesia and Germany, standardization and accreditation institutions, metrology organizations, industry associations, businesses, and strategic partners from both countries.
Germany’s delegation was led by Ole Janssen from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, while the Indonesian delegation was opened by BSKJI Head Emmy Suryandari.
Indonesia Highlights Importance of Quality Infrastructure
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said strengthening quality infrastructure systems is important to improve the competitiveness of Indonesia’s industrial sector amid global trade dynamics and digital industrial transformation.
“Cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in the field of Quality Infrastructure is expected to strengthen the national industrial ecosystem so that it becomes more competitive, adaptive to global regulatory developments, and capable of expanding export market access, particularly to Europe,” Agus said in Jakarta on Thursday (14/05).
He said quality infrastructure is an important foundation for creating industries that can meet global standards while increasing international market confidence in Indonesian manufacturing products.
Agus also said strengthening standardization, conformity assessment, and digital transformation in quality infrastructure systems needs to continue so Indonesian industries are better prepared for global competition.
Indonesia and Germany Sign Work Plan for 2026–2027
Emmy Suryandari said quality infrastructure has a strategic role in supporting industrial competitiveness, consumer protection, international market access, and sustainable industrial transformation.
She also emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in facing global challenges, including harmonization of technical regulations and industrial digital transformation.
One of the main agendas during the meeting was the signing of the Indonesia-Germany Work Plan for 2026–2027 as a commitment by both countries to continue strategic cooperation in quality infrastructure.
I-EU CEPA and Product Standards Become Main Discussion Topics
The forum discussed three strategic issues related to quality infrastructure cooperation.
The first session discussed harmonization of quality infrastructure systems within the framework of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA). The discussion included opportunities to improve market access through stronger standards and conformity assessment systems.
The second session focused on strengthening product safety and quality through standardization. Participants discussed the role of national standardization, alignment with international systems, and the importance of conformity assessment institutions in supporting regulations and increasing market trust.
Indonesia Discusses Digital Product Passport Readiness
The third session discussed the digitalization of quality infrastructure, especially Indonesia’s readiness to face the implementation of the European Union’s Digital Product Passport (DPP).
The discussion included DPP policy frameworks, digitalization initiatives in quality infrastructure, and examples of DPP implementation in industrial sectors.
Through the forum, Indonesia and Germany expect to strengthen cooperation in developing a modern, adaptive, and globally integrated quality infrastructure system to support industrial competitiveness and expand international market access.
At the closing session, Emmy Suryandari expressed appreciation to the German government, BMWE, GIZ, and all strategic partners for supporting the strengthening of Indonesia’s quality infrastructure system. She said she hopes cooperation between the two countries will continue to grow and contribute positively to economic and industrial growth in the future.
