Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) recorded a data traffic surge of more than 20% during the 2026 Lebaran mudik (25/03), exceeding national telecommunications growth projections of 40% released by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). Millions of Indosat customers were on the move during this period.
Data Traffic Peaks on Key Routes
The highest traffic increases occurred from Jakarta to West Java, over 22%, and to Central Java, over 37%. This reflects the high connectivity demand of millions of traveling customers.
Downtime during Lebaran 2026 decreased by 20%, showing improvements in service reliability.
AI Technology Enables Real-Time Monitoring and Automatic Optimization
As an AI-TechCo, Indosat uses artificial intelligence to monitor network traffic in real-time, anticipate congestion, and optimize capacity automatically. The system ensures 4G networks provide baseline stability, while 5G handles spikes in critical areas.
"The mudik and post-mudik period during Lebaran is a true test of our network's resilience, and we are grateful for the trust of millions of customers who rely on Indosat's network during this important period; this achievement reflects our continuous efforts to strengthen the quality and reliability of our network across Indonesia, as part of our transformation into an AI-TechCo," said Desmond Cheung, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Indosat.
Strategic Network Deployment Covers 8,121 km of Travel Routes
Indosat monitored 77 mudik routes, including 36 toll roads, 31 non-toll roads, and 10 railway lines, covering a total of ~8,121 km and 797 strategic points of interest.
More than 2,500 engineers were on duty 24/7 across 46 branches and 16 operational posts nationwide. Since April 2025, Indosat has upgraded over 7,000 sites, built more than 1,600 new sites, and deployed over 75 Mobile BTS units along mudik routes.
In total, 55,000 active sites across 420 regencies supported millions of customers without interruptions.
