The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting the use of photovoltaic (PV) systems by fishermen as an energy source for cold storage or fish storage warehouses. This move is intended to generate demand for solar power plants (PLTS).
“Demand creation is something we observe, for example, the use of PV in cold storage,” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), during the Delivering Impactful Energy Transition event in Jakarta, Monday.
According to Eniya, the use of PLTS by fishermen is not limited to storage facilities. Fishermen can also use solar power for lighting while at sea in the early hours of the morning.
“At 2 a.m., they [fishermen] are already out, and the lighting uses batteries from solar cells, so they don’t waste diesel or skip using solar fuel,” Eniya said.
Eniya stated that solar power programs for fishermen, although relatively small in capacity, are effective in contributing to the broader target of 100 gigawatts of PLTS utilization.
Mainstreaming the use of PLTS is not limited to fishermen. Eniya also aims to expand its use to village cooperatives, health clinics (puskesmas), and electric vehicles.
