The Ministry of Communication and Digital, together with the Banda Aceh City Government, has prepared Banda Aceh Academy (BAA) as a new center for the local startup ecosystem.
This facility is designed to become a learning and collaboration space for Aceh’s young generation to build technology-based businesses.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria said the initiative is a concrete result of the ministry’s collaboration with the Banda Aceh City Government.
“The concept of Banda Aceh Academy has already been presented by the Mayor (Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal), and we are very pleased with this initiative,” he told the media after inspecting the BAA building on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Strengthening Banda Aceh’s Digital Business Landscape
Patria emphasized that BAA answers the needs of Aceh’s creative youth who want broader access to startup opportunities.
“We are ready to support this idea because it aligns with the ministry’s programs, especially in building the digital ecosystem. We hope this will strengthen Banda Aceh’s digital business ecosystem. The youth here are creative, with high expectations and a desire for greater access, particularly to funding,” he explained.
The ministry has prepared startup development pathways at BAA, including skills enhancement, network expansion, and partnerships with ministries, universities, and industries.
Banda Aceh Mayor’s Support for Startup Growth
Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal welcomed the initiative, noting its alignment with national programs.
“We are grateful for the positive response because the facilities at BAA are in line with the national program that aims to produce 1,000 startups,” she stressed.
She highlighted that BAA is not only for Banda Aceh’s youth but for all of Aceh.
“Through collaboration with universities, state-owned enterprises, and the central government, BAA will expand access to funding, create job opportunities, and improve the competitiveness of digital-based MSMEs,” she said.
Banda Aceh Academy as a Digital Innovation Center
The Banda Aceh Academy is expected to become a hub for the digital economy in Aceh.
It is designed to support young people in becoming producers of digital innovation rather than just consumers of technology.
