QRIS Hits Japan with DANA First Non‑Bank PJP, Cross‑Border Payments Reimagined

The Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) continues to drive innovation in digital payments.

Marking Indonesia’s Independence Day, DANA has become the first non-bank Payment Service Provider (PJP) to offer cross-border QRIS transactions in Japan.

This expansion reflects DANA’s commitment to building a connected and interoperable payment system across ASEAN, in line with the Indonesian Payment System Blueprint 2030.

Bank Indonesia Highlights QRIS Success Across Borders

According to Perry Warjiyo, Governor of Bank Indonesia, ongoing innovations in QRIS aim to expand acceptance and support digital economic and financial inclusion.

The cross-border QRIS feature has seen strong performance, with more than 5 million transactions recorded across Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

DANA Reports Strong Growth in Cross-Border Transactions

DANA has seen positive reception of QRIS across borders. The value of international QRIS transactions through its platform tripled year-on-year for the 12-month period ending July 2025.

Vince Iswara, CEO & Co-Founder of DANA Indonesia, stated, “We will continue to support the implementation of cross-border QRIS by providing secure technology, user-friendly interfaces, and top-tier user service. We are committed to ensuring seamless QRIS transactions in destination countries and leveraging this opportunity to accelerate financial inclusion and digital economic growth.”

Strategic Cooperation Reinforces Indonesia’s Digital Vision

DANA’s collaboration with Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) in implementing cross-border QRIS confirms its role as a key partner in achieving the national vision of a cashless society.

With the expansion to Japan, DANA aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global digital payments ecosystem and open paths for deeper international cooperation.
