Amartha’s AI‑Led Microfinance Model Secures Gold in Economic Empowerment at ISRA Awards

Amartha, a financial technology company focused on empowering rural women-led microenterprises, won a gold medal at the 2025 Indonesia Social Responsibility Award (ISRA).

The award, given in the Economic Empowerment category, recognizes Amartha’s initiative titled From the Grassroots, For the Future, which supports community welfare through inclusive and sustainable growth.

The program focuses on underserved rural entrepreneurs, including those outside Java.

It integrates sustainability and inclusiveness through a business model that uses AI-based credit risk assessments, connects financial and retail institutions to micro-entrepreneurs, and employs over 9,000 young professionals across more than 50,000 villages in Amartha’s operational areas.

Inclusive Growth Through Social and Environmental Responsibility

Katrina Inandia, Head of Impact & Sustainability at Amartha, stated that the company’s business model and social responsibility efforts are based on the belief that social and economic inequality cannot be addressed through commercial approaches alone.

“Amartha evaluates economic, environmental, social, and governance impacts as part of its risk mitigation and business sustainability strategy. We integrate ESG principles to ensure every capital distribution benefits grassroots communities. The program From the Grassroots, For the Future is designed to meet local community needs, from access to capital to financial literacy”.

Technology and Talent for Rural Micro-Entrepreneurs

Amartha’s model connects underbanked rural businesses with financial systems through AI-driven creditworthiness assessments.

By involving more than 9,000 young talents in 50,000+ villages, Amartha enables large-scale reach while prioritizing sustainability and inclusivity.

Through this approach, the company has supported over 3.3 million women entrepreneurs and disbursed more than IDR 35 trillion in working capital.

Sustainability Pillars: Lestari, Madani, and Bestari

Amartha’s sustainability program is structured around three pillars:

  • Amartha Lestari, which protects the environment while promoting economic growth.
  • Amartha Madani, which seeks to positively impact customers, employees, and communities.
  • Amartha Bestari, which focuses on accountable governance and platform credibility.

These pillars are part of Amartha’s broader commitment to sustainable development through its business and impact initiatives.

Measurable Impact on Income, Skills, and Digital Literacy

According to Amartha’s partner welfare survey, 77% of its beneficiaries experienced income growth, 75% gained new skills, and 72% improved their smartphone usage.

These outcomes followed training and digital initiatives led by Amartha’s Business Partner Team.

Amartha also provides access to quality education through the Amartha Cendekia Scholarship for high school students, women in STEAM fields, and female university students from frontier regions. Since 2022, 480 students have received these scholarships.

“This award is the result of Amartha’s synergy with various parties who share our mission to improve the welfare of grassroots economic communities,” said Katrina.
