The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is advancing digital transformation to boost the competitiveness and sustainability of Indonesia’s manufacturing sector.
This shift is expected to create new jobs in technology and related industries, while improving work quality.
“Digital transformation aligns with the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. It not only strengthens domestic industrial structure but also enhances the competence and readiness of the national workforce to be more competitive globally,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/7).
PIDI 4.0: The One-Stop Hub for Smart Manufacturing Innovation
To support this transformation, Kemenperin operates the Pusat Industri Digital Indonesia 4.0 (PIDI 4.0) as a strategic accelerator for digitalization in manufacturing.
PIDI 4.0 provides integrated services that include technology showcases, human resource development, innovation ecosystems, consulting, and stakeholder collaboration.
“PIDI 4.0 is not only a center for showcasing technology, but also a place for developing human resource capabilities, consultation, innovation, and collaboration between government, industry, academia, and technology solution providers,” said Masrokhan, Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI).
PIDI 4.0 collaborates with 64 stakeholders from businesses, associations, and educational institutions to build Indonesia’s Industry 4.0 ecosystem. One key partner is NEC Indonesia.
NEC’s Human-Centric Approach: Bridging Tech and Workforce Readiness
NEC Indonesia promotes digital transformation through a Human-Centric Digital Transformation approach.
Its smart manufacturing solutions, such as Real-Time Monitoring Dashboard, Warehouse Management System, and Work Process Recognition are featured at PIDI 4.0.
“We highly appreciate the presence and contribution of NEC Indonesia as an active partner of PIDI 4.0.
Their data-, IoT-, and AI-based smart manufacturing solutions showcased at PIDI 4.0 are concrete evidence of their role in developing the Industry 4.0 ecosystem in Indonesia,” Masrokhan continued.
NEC Indonesia also operates a showcase at the PIDI 4.0 building, illustrating how technology can be adopted by considering workforce needs, process efficiency, and sustainability.
“NEC is interested in cooperating with Kemenperin due to our shared vision on accelerating Industry 4.0 transformation in Indonesia. Like Kemenperin, NEC also considers human resources as a key factor in technology development,” said Joji Yamamoto, President Director of NEC Indonesia.
SmartBox and Industrial IoT: Shaping the Future of Local Manufacturing
In 2025, PIDI 4.0 enabled collaboration between NEC Indonesia and BogorTech to develop the Industrial IoT SmartBox.
This technology is designed to acquire and visualize data from industrial machines and is expected to meet the specific needs of Indonesian manufacturers.
NEC Indonesia has also conducted Industry 4.0 training for students, university participants, and professionals, organized events at PIDI 4.0, joined national and international exhibitions, and engaged in business matching activities.
“As one of PIDI 4.0’s partners, NEC contributes to the acceleration of Making Indonesia 4.0 by building national-scale digital infrastructure, enhancing human resource quality, and supporting Indonesia’s innovation ecosystem,” said Joji.
