Vidio Valuation Hits Over $1 Billion in 2025, Becoming Indonesia’s Newest OTT Unicorn

Indonesian streaming platform Vidio has reportedly surpassed a US$1 billion valuation, according to regulatory filings cited by Alternatives. Pe.

The company has raised close to US$200 million in equity funding, marking a significant milestone for a local over-the-top (OTT) service.

A recent funding round saw an additional US$2 million invested by a Sinar Mas subsidiary.

This follows a US$25 million investment from the same conglomerate through its DSSA unit since 2022. In 2021, Affinity Equity Partners committed US$150 million to Vidio, making it one of the platform’s largest stakeholders.

Current ownership is dominated by PT Surya Citra Media Tbk (79.44%), followed by Affinity Equity Partners (15.89%), and PT DSST Video Gemilang (2.68%).

Vidio has declined to provide comments regarding the valuation reports.

Corporate Startups Driving Indonesia’s Digital Economy

Vidio joins a list of corporate-backed digital ventures that have reached unicorn status.

Similar platforms include OVO (backed by Lippo Group), Dana (Emtek), and Blibli (Djarum Group), reflecting a broader trend of conglomerates incubating high-value digital platforms.

Leading the OTT Market with Premium Content

According to the AMPD SEA Premium VOD Landscape Report by Media Partners Asia (MPA), Vidio had 4.7 million paid subscribers as of December 2024, the highest among OTT platforms in Indonesia.

The platform’s growth has been driven by exclusive sports broadcasting rights, including BRI Liga 1, Premier League, and the Paris Olympics 2024, along with the increasing popularity of its Vidio Original Series (VOS).

Subscriber Growth Fueled by Local Content and Regional Reach

MPA data shows that Vidio gained approximately 800,000 new subscribers throughout 2024.

Much of this growth is attributed to the rising appeal of local series and successful expansion efforts into areas beyond major cities.
