Bank Indonesia (BI) and Banque de France (BdF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 15, 2025, marking a key development in central banking cooperation.
The agreement was signed by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo and BdF Governor François Villeroy de Galhau and aims to strengthen institutional ties between the two countries.
“This Memorandum of Understanding is a significant milestone in advancing the long-term relationship between BI and BdF and is more than a symbolic commitment. It is proof of the spirit to strengthen institutional ties and deepen bilateral cooperation in sustainable finance and climate-related financial risks,” said Governor Perry.
Governor Villeroy de Galhau added that the MoU highlights the strategic role of both institutions in maintaining monetary and financial stability and advancing sustainable finance.
The MoU is part of the outcomes of a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron, held in Indonesia on May 28, 2025.
The agreement reflects an increasingly solid partnership between the two central banks.
Collaboration Areas Include Digital Innovation and Sustainable Finance
The scope of cooperation includes digital innovation in payment systems, sustainable finance, and climate-related financial risks, and regulatory frameworks for Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and prevention of financing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (PPPSPM).
The partnership will be implemented through policy dialogues, knowledge exchange, joint studies or research, capacity building, and the sharing of data or information.
Structured and Strategic Cooperation on Key Central Banking Areas
The agreement reflects a mutual commitment to structured and strategic collaboration in key areas of central banking.
These include monetary policy, macroprudential issues, financial stability, and payment and settlement systems.
BI and BdF also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting financial stability, economic strength, and sustainable growth, both nationally and globally.
At the national level, the agreement supports Bank Indonesia’s strong commitment to the Government of Indonesia’s Asta Cita program.
