BYD and DeepSeek AI Partner to Bring

BYD Auto, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has teamed up with DeepSeek AI to develop an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) called "God’s Eye." This AI-powered system is designed to enhance autonomous driving capabilities, allowing vehicles to operate seamlessly in urban environments and highways.

Although the "God’s Eye" system was recently launched in China, BYD has announced that it will take two to three years before the technology is introduced to international markets, including Indonesia. This strategic delay ensures that the technology is refined through real-world testing before deployment overseas.

BYD and DeepSeek AI: A Strategic Partnership

The collaboration between BYD and DeepSeek AI marks a significant move in the autonomous driving industry. The "God’s Eye" system integrates:

  • Artificial Intelligence for real-time decision-making
  • Cameras and sensors to detect road conditions and objects
  • Autonomous navigation for highway driving and urban traffic

This cutting-edge technology aims to compete with Tesla by offering advanced autonomous features at a more affordable price point. Unlike premium models from Tesla and other Western manufacturers, BYD’s approach aims to democratize AI-powered driving by making it accessible across different vehicle segments.

"God’s Eye" in Indonesia: Expected Launch by 2027

According to Zheng Cuifang (Sheryl), Product Strategy Manager at BYD Auto Industry, the company expects to introduce "God’s Eye" to Indonesia by 2026 or 2027. She explained that the road conditions in Indonesia differ significantly from those in China, requiring additional time for local testing.

BYD plans to spend the next two years refining the system and ensuring its reliability before launching it internationally. The adaptation process will include:

  • Testing AI responsiveness on Indonesian roads
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance with local driving laws
  • Improving safety features for congested urban traffic

Will Older BYD Models Support "God’s Eye"?

Currently, BYD models already available in Indonesia – including the Dolphin, Atto 3, Sealion 7, and Sealdo not support over-the-air (OTA) updates for the "God’s Eye" system. This means that only newer BYD models launching after 2027 will feature the advanced AI technology.

For Indonesian consumers interested in autonomous driving, this means waiting for the next generation of BYD vehicles or choosing existing alternatives in the market.

Privacy Concerns and Global Restrictions

While DeepSeek AI has helped BYD advance its autonomous driving capabilities, its technology has faced regulatory scrutiny in multiple countries. Reports suggest that DeepSeek’s AI systems may transmit user data to China Mobile, a state-affiliated telecom provider.

As a result, several countries, including the U.S., Australia, Italy, and South Korea, have banned DeepSeek AI-powered platforms due to data privacy concerns. This could impact BYD’s ability to expand "God’s Eye" globally, depending on how regulators assess its security implications.

Conclusion

The BYD-DeepSeek AI partnership represents a major step forward in making autonomous driving more accessible. If successfully launched, "God’s Eye" could revolutionize Indonesia’s EV market by offering AI-powered driving at an affordable price.

However, the success of this technology will depend on how well it adapts to local conditions and whether BYD can address privacy concerns to gain consumer trust.
