Google Backs $350M Series A for Apptronik’s Humanoid Robots

Apptronik, a Texas-based robotics company, revealed on February 13, 2025, that it has secured a $350 million Series A funding round. The round was co-led by B Capital and Capital Factory, with notable backing from Google. This new investment will enable Apptronik to accelerate its development of AI-driven humanoid robots.

Founded in 2016, Apptronik had previously raised $28 million. The company is now focusing on scaling up the production of robots like its Apollo model, designed for industrial use. According to CEO Jeff Cardenas, this funding will allow Apptronik to expand its AI robotics capabilities, bringing robots out of the industrial sector and into other areas, such as homes.

AI-powered robots are becoming increasingly versatile. "We are seeing these robots making their way into the world on a larger scale," Cardenas explained. He highlighted how these robots, initially designed for industrial tasks, could eventually integrate into everyday life, addressing needs in manufacturing and healthcare.

Apptronik is already making strides, having developed 15 robotic systems in partnership with NASA and Nvidia, including the Valkyrie humanoid robot. The company is working on its ninth iteration of humanoid robots and aims to make them more affordable. Cardenas believes the target price for these robots will be lower than that of a car.

In addition, Apptronik is collaborating with Google DeepMind to enhance the AI that powers these robots. Meanwhile, Tesla has also ventured into humanoid robotics with its Tesla Optimus model. The humanoid robot market is expected to grow significantly, with Goldman Sachs predicting it could reach $38 billion by 2035.

"We're in the race," Cardenas said, adding that the new funding is a testament to the belief that Apptronik has a strong chance of competing against Tesla and other industry giants.
