The Indonesian government has identified five key areas for implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to improve public services and boost economic efficiency. These priorities, outlined by the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Meutya Hafid, include healthcare, bureaucratic reform, talent development, smart city projects, and food security.
In the healthcare sector, AI will play a crucial role in expanding access to services and enhancing diagnostic accuracy. According to Meutya, AI technologies will facilitate early disease detection and streamline hospital management, making healthcare services more efficient.
“The use of predictive, preventative, participatory, and personalized models, also known as the 4Ps, is designed to improve the quality and reach of healthcare for the public,” she said in a statement on December 22, 2024.
AI is also seen as a transformative tool for bureaucratic reform, helping government agencies process data more efficiently and reduce both operational costs and time. The government aims to launch an integrated e-Government system (SPBE) by 2025, which will connect services across ministries.
In education, AI is being utilized to cater to individual learning needs. This includes providing personalized learning experiences and offering flexible access to training materials through online platforms, enhancing educational outcomes for all.
Moreover, AI is being integrated into the development of smart cities. In collaboration with institutions like the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the government is working to assess and improve digital public services in urban areas. AI helps manage traffic, optimize city mobility, and improve urban planning.
Another area where AI is making a significant impact is food security. AI technologies are being used to boost agricultural productivity, improve land management, and ensure more efficient food supply chains. AI-driven weather forecasts and climate models are expected to play a critical role in improving food security in the country.
“AI’s influence will be felt across all sectors. However, we’re prioritizing efforts that directly contribute to national food security and nutrition,” Meutya emphasized.
