China-Indonesia Collaboration to Enhance Vocational Education Quality and Industry Integration

Strengthening Vocational Education and Industry Collaboration Between China and Indonesia

Jakarta, December 18, 2023 – The China-Indonesia Industry-Education Integration Community was officially launched during the China-Indonesia Industry-Education Integration Development Forum held at the Ballroom of Hotel UTC-UNJ by Naraya, East Jakarta, on December 18. This event marked a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation between the two countries in vocational education and industry integration to build a future workforce of high quality.

The event opened with remarks from Hu Haibin, B.Eng., MEc., MBA., Ph.D., Chairman of HK Haibin Education Group and the community's promoter. In his speech, Hu Haibin emphasized, “This collaboration will drive workforce skill enhancement, create quality job opportunities, and significantly contribute to improving the economic welfare of communities.”

Prof. Dr. Komarudin, Rector of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), stated that this collaboration presents a great opportunity for vocational education in Indonesia. “Hopefully, this program will not stop at the signing of the MoU but will further involve concrete programs, such as workforce mapping workshops, training for graduates, and employment absorption of Indonesian workers in Chinese companies,” he said. He also added that this collaboration has been in development for three years, inspired by the success of vocational higher education in China.

During the main session, the China-Indonesia Industry-Education Integration Community was officially inaugurated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Wuxi Institute of Technology, and the China-Indonesia Cultural and Education Exchange Association. This collaboration aims to establish various training and vocational certification centers, including:

  1. The establishment of the China-Indonesia University of Applied Technology
  2. The Indonesian National Vocational Education Standards Certification Center
  3. The Indonesian Vocational Skills Certification Center
  4. The Mandarin + Vocational Skills Training Center
  5. The Digital Technology for Vocational Education Center
  6. An Integrated Internship and Employment Base

The forum discussions during the conference were also a key highlight. The first forum, themed “Vocational Education Collaboration: Standards, Content, and Skills Training,” delved into the development of vocational education standards and training aligned with the industry needs of both countries. Meanwhile, the second forum focused on “Technical Workforce Needs and Teacher Capacity Building for the China-Indonesia Industry,” exploring strategies for technical workforce training and teacher capacity enhancement to meet the evolving demands of the industrial workforce. These forums provided in-depth insights into strategic steps to bridge the education and industry sectors.

With a vision to become a bridge between education and industry, the China-Indonesia Industry-Education Integration Community is expected to create superior human resources, strengthen workforce skills, and support sustainable economic growth in both countries.
