The Telecommunication Network Providers Association of Telecommunication Network Providers (Apjatel) plans to fix the mess of tangled fiber optic cables in city areas starting this year. This effort aims to make the telecom infrastructure look better and work more smoothly, attracting a lot of public and government attention. They are working on how to design and pay for this project.
Jerry Siregar, Apjatel's Chairman, highlighted how important it is to sort out the messy networks because they're becoming a big problem for many places. To fix this, Apjatel is mapping where the repairs will be done, targeting places with the most issues and hoping to bury the cables underground by mid-2025.
Fixing these places takes a lot of work, so they can't start right away. Apjatel is doing a lot of research to figure out the best solution. Jerry mentioned that the most chaotic cables need the most attention.
Apjatel is also focusing on cities where the cable problems are the worst. When it comes to paying for this, they're still doing their financial checks, but there will be a meeting soon to talk about how to fund fixing the cables on top.
On a related note, the Ombudsman, who checks how the government manages public services, wants cities to improve their streets and building infrastructure to better manage the city. The Ombudsman also said that all cities, including DKI Jakarta, need to make rules to better organize the fiber optic cables. They mentioned that the government should pay for this work through its budget, and local governments could use their money to start the work but would need to follow national rules to finish it.
The Ombudsman also pointed out that SJUT (Street and Building Integrated Utility Network) projects in DKI Jakarta have been delayed and not nearly completed as planned. They mentioned that DKI Jakarta's local government has been slow in making the necessary rules for the SJUT, and the projects haven't been properly evaluated yet.
