Bank Mandiri Expands Cross-Border QR Payments to China as Transactions Surge 137%

Bank Mandiri announced the expansion of its cross-border QR payment service to China following a significant rise in international transactions among Indonesian customers (01/05).

The increase reflects growing global mobility and stronger adoption of digital payment solutions.

The bank continues to support Bank Indonesia’s initiative to expand cross-border QRIS connectivity through its Livin’ by Mandiri platform.

Transaction Value Jumps 137% Year-on-Year.

Cross-border QR transactions recorded a 137% year-on-year increase, reaching Rp 54 billion as of March 2026.

This growth highlights the rising demand for integrated international payment solutions among customers.

Seamless Payments Across Millions of Merchants in China

Through the service, customers can make payments at millions of merchants in China without exchanging cash or converting currency.

Transactions can be completed by scanning the QR Pay feature on Livin’ by Mandiri at merchants displaying UnionPay or Alipay logos, enabling fast payments even without login.

Expansion Responds to Changing Customer Behavior

Jan Winston Tambunan, Director of Network and Retail Banking at Bank Mandiri, said the move responds to shifting customer preferences toward global digital payments.

“Pertumbuhan transaksi lintas negara yang sangat signifikan menunjukkan adanya pergeseran perilaku nasabah ke arah pembayaran digital global. Ekspansi ke Tiongkok menjadi langkah penting untuk memastikan nasabah dapat bertransaksi secara mudah dan seamless di salah satu destinasi dengan ekosistem pembayaran digital terbesar di dunia,” he said in an official statement.

Additional Services Support Overseas Financial Needs

Bank Mandiri also introduced a yuan (CNY) multicurrency account linked to Mandiri Debit cards.

This allows customers to withdraw cash from Visa-logo ATMs in China without exchange rate conversion.

The expansion adds to the bank’s cross-border QR network in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.

Livin’ by Mandiri has reached more than 39.1 million users, with a total transaction value of Rp 1,200 trillion as of March 2026.

QRIS usage also grew, with 9.9 million users, up 41% year-on-year, and transaction value rising 76% year-on-year to Rp 64 trillion.
