PLN and Ministry of Trade Launch Ultra Fast Charging EV Station to Expand Public SPKLU Access

PT PLN (Persero), in collaboration with Indonesia's Ministry of Trade (Kemendag RI), launched an Ultra Fast Charging Electric Vehicle (EV) Station at the Ministry's headquarters in Jakarta on March 5, 2026. This initiative aims to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia and expand public EV charging infrastructure, especially within government facilities. Minister of Trade Highlights PLN’s Efforts for EV Users

Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, expressed his appreciation for PLN's quick response to the growing demand for EV charging facilities in Indonesia. He emphasized that the rising number of EV users requires an increase in charging stations.

“We thank PLN for providing this facility at the Ministry of Trade to support electric vehicle users. This is not just for our staff; anyone passing by can also charge here. This is a form of collaboration between the Government and PLN,” Santoso said.

Santoso added that around 15% of Ministry employees have already switched to electric vehicles. He believes that the expansion of EV charging stations will encourage even more people to adopt electric vehicles.

“With more charging stations, more people will use electric vehicles. Previously, people hesitated due to the lack of charging stations. Now, charging is easy and only takes 30 minutes,” Santoso explained.

SPKLU Utilization Grows Since Launch

Since its trial operation began in December 2025, the SPKLU stations at Kemendag RI have seen increasing usage. By February 2026, the three Ultra Fast Charging units, each with a 120 kW capacity, recorded 2,460 charging transactions. A total of 62,598 kW of electricity was distributed during this period.

PLN CEO Outlines Key Collaborations for Expanding EV Infrastructure

Darmawan Prasodjo, CEO of PLN, also praised the collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, highlighting the initiative as part of PLN’s efforts to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. According to Prasodjo, the development of charging stations is essential for Indonesia’s shift from expensive, high-emission energy to more affordable, low-emission alternatives.

Prasodjo emphasized that expanding EV charging stations cannot rely solely on PLN's properties. He pointed out that strategic locations owned by ministries, shopping centers, hospitals, and other public spaces are crucial for broader infrastructure development.

“Charging stations cannot only be on PLN’s land. Key locations like government buildings, shopping centers, and other public facilities will be essential for expanding access,” Prasodjo stated.

PLN’s Effort to Encourage Investment in EV Infrastructure

Prasodjo further explained that PLN’s role, along with government efforts, is to create a conducive investment ecosystem for the development of EV infrastructure. This will encourage private sector participation in the construction of more charging stations across the country.

“We are committed to ensuring that both the technical and commercial aspects of EV infrastructure are well-managed. This will make investing in charging stations appealing and sustainable,” Prasodjo concluded.
