Mandiri Sahabat Desa Program Improves Maternal and Child Health in Papua, Yogyakarta, NTT and Central Sulawesi

Bank Mandiri has reinforced its role as a strategic government partner in developing superior human resources from early childhood through its Social and Environmental Responsibility program, Mandiri Sahabat Desa (30/01).

The program reaches over 1,000 beneficiaries, focusing on nutrition interventions, clean water access, and educational support for families at risk of stunting in several priority regions.

Holistic Nutrition and Health Support for Mothers and Children

Mandiri CEO Riduan explained that Mandiri Sahabat Desa, implemented over six months, covers East Nusa Tenggara, Central Sulawesi, Papua, and Yogyakarta.

The program distributes balanced nutrition packages to pregnant women and children under two, and improves access to clean water through bore wells in areas facing prolonged dry seasons.

The impact is visible in improved health outcomes. In Keerom Regency, Papua, the average weight of pregnant women rose from 55.61 kilograms to 60.15 kilograms during the program.

In Central Sulawesi, children under two gained weight from 8.25 kilograms to 9.38 kilograms and grew from 72.79 cm to 77.50 cm.

In Yogyakarta, children under two in Gunungkidul and Kulon Progo consistently showed weight increases from August to October 2025.

In East Nusa Tenggara, bore wells built in Oenitas, Bea Ngencung, and Wellabubur villages now provide sustainable clean water and sanitation solutions for local communities.

National Recognition for Tangible Contributions

Bank Mandiri received appreciation from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) for its high commitment and contributions to the Foster Parents Against Stunting Movement (GENTING).

Riduan emphasized, “We believe that accelerating stunting reduction requires structured collaboration between the government and communities. Bank Mandiri is committed to delivering sustainable solutions to build a healthier, more productive, and competitive generation of Indonesians.”

Integrating Health, Education, and Financial Literacy

Mandiri Sahabat Desa is designed to accelerate holistic village development, including health, education, economic growth, and basic needs, so that villages can grow stronger and more competitive.

The program targets long-term stunting prevention during the critical First 1,000 Days of Life and aligns with government efforts like the Free Nutritious Meal Program for school-aged children.

Weekly food packages, including premium rice, eggs, vegetables, and animal protein, are delivered to pregnant women and children under two.

BKKBN volunteers serve as Family Mentors to monitor health and provide nutrition education.

The program also provides financial literacy education for beneficiary families. Riduan concluded, “By integrating health, economic, and educational interventions, Mandiri Sahabat Desa encourages sustainable village growth while strengthening community economies. Collaboration with BKKBN will continue to expand to other stunting-prone areas.”
