President Prabowo Subianto has decided to revoke the business permits of 28 companies found to have violated forest area utilization rules, as announced by the Minister of State Secretariat, Prasetyo Hadi (20/01).
The decision followed a limited virtual meeting led by the President on Monday, 19 January 2026, involving ministries, government agencies, and the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force.
“On Monday, 19 January 2026, the President led a limited meeting with ministries, institutions, and the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force. In that meeting, the Task Force reported the results of investigations into companies indicated to have committed violations,” Prasetyo Hadi said.
“Based on that report, the President decided to revoke the permits of 28 companies proven to have committed violations,” he added.
The revoked permits cover 22 Forest Utilization Business Permits for natural and plantation forests, with a total area of 1,010,592 hectares.
The remaining six companies operate in the mining sector, plantations, and timber forest product utilization.
Government Commitment to Regulating Natural Resource-Based Businesses
Prasetyo Hadi stated that the revocation reflects the government’s commitment since the start of President Prabowo’s leadership to reorganize and regulate economic activities based on natural resources.
He recalled that two months after taking office, President Prabowo issued Presidential Regulation No. 5 of 2025 to establish the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force.
The task force is assigned to conduct audits and inspections of forestry, plantation, and mining businesses.
Forest Areas Reclaimed and Returned for Conservation
During one year of operation, the task force has reclaimed control of 4.09 million hectares of oil palm plantations located within forest areas.
From that total area, 900,000 hectares have been returned as conservation forest, including 81,793 hectares of Tesso Nilo National Park in Riau.
“Once again, we emphasize that the government will continue to commit to regulating natural resource-based businesses so that they comply with applicable laws and regulations,” Prasetyo Hadi said.
