Indonesia’s Digital Government Push: SPBE Integration of 27,000 Central and Regional Apps Takes Priority

The Indonesian government has designated the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) as the main framework for national digital governance (20/01).

The policy focuses on integrating public services so that citizens no longer deal with separate and repetitive systems.

Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to Integrate 27,000 Applications

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria emphasized that sectoral digitalization is now outdated.

“There are currently many duplicate applications, around 27,000 applications spread across ministries, agencies, both at the central and regional levels. This is a major task for us to integrate them into one Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) program,” Nezar said during a working meeting with Committee I of the Regional Representative Council in Central Jakarta (20/01/2026).

Integration Aims to Simplify Services and Connect Data

Nezar explained that SPBE integration will eliminate overlapping systems, streamline service procedures, and ensure data between agencies is connected.

For citizens, this means public services will be easier to access and consistent across all regions.

Regional Systems Aligned with National Digital Infrastructure

The Ministry encourages local governments to align their digital systems with the national infrastructure, including the National Data Center and the national API as the backbone for service data exchange.

“The goal is to make public services more integrated and accessible to all citizens, while also fostering local digital ecosystems,” Nezar added.

Progress in National Digital Government Foundation

The Ministry also reported improvements in Indonesia’s digital government foundation.

The National Digital Transformation Index rose from 50.1 in 2022 to 54.3 in 2024, with the digital government pillar showing steady progress.

Nezar stressed that the next phase requires stronger data strategies, service integration, and information security standards to ensure SPBE creates an efficient and trusted bureaucracy.

“Digital transformation must be viewed as a national agenda implemented jointly by central and regional governments, so that all regions can contribute equally to achieving national development priorities,” he concluded.
