Indonesia–Japan Digital Transformation Drive Enlists 131 Manufacturing Firms in LeMMI 4.0 Program

Indonesia and Japan intensified cooperation to accelerate digital transformation across national industries through the development of competent and adaptive industrial human resources, as highlighted by the Ministry of Industry on Wednesday (03/12).

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the New National Industrialization Strategy (SBIN) was prepared to guide the acceleration of manufacturing transformation.

“All strategies rely on the strength of industrial human resources. With competent and adaptive HR, Indonesia will be able to accelerate its industrial transformation toward an advanced and highly competitive nation,” he said.

LeMMI 4.0 Symposium Marks Key Milestone in Lean Manufacturing Adoption

As part of this effort, the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) worked with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) to hold the LeMMI 4.0 Symposium on Monday (01/12).

The event, themed “Accelerating Lean Manufacturing Excellence across Indonesia’s Key Industries, Empowering Automotive and Beyond through LeMMI 4.0”, served as the culmination of the Lean Monozukuri for Making Indonesia 4.0 program.

BPSDMI Head Doddy Rahadi stated that the symposium provides an opportunity to review best practices in digital-based Lean Manufacturing adopted by various manufacturing sectors in Indonesia.

“This symposium is the peak of the LeMMI 4.0 training program and an important momentum to examine the best digital Lean Manufacturing practices implemented across manufacturing industries,” he explained.

Program Shows Significant Gains in Workforce Competence Over Four Years

Doddy noted that over the past four years, LeMMI 4.0 has brought meaningful improvements to industrial workforce capabilities, especially in lean production processes and automation technology.

“This program shows the commitment of national companies to prepare internal talent as the drivers of digital transformation,” he said.

Sidik Herman, Head of the Industrial HR Education and Training Center, emphasized that the symposium represents more than a program review.

He said it acts as a “gateway to a new phase” for expanding the implementation of Lean Monozukuri.

“We hope all methodologies, best practices, and technical coaching models built with Japan can continue to spread and be adapted by more national industries,” Sidik noted.

More Than 130 Companies Participate in Lean and Automation Training

Until this year, the LeMMI 4.0 program has involved 202 participants from 131 manufacturing companies.

Its focus areas include Lean Manufacturing, Lean Monozukuri, IoT-based smart maintenance, and step-by-step industrial automation.

Japan Appreciates Indonesia’s Progress in LeMMI 4.0 Implementation

Hata Yumiko, Director of Asia and Pacific Division at METI Japan, expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s progress under LeMMI 4.0.

“Each LeMMI 4.0 participant is not only a trainee but also a crystallization of strategic Japan–Indonesia cooperation and a driver of change for the future of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry,” she said.

AOTS representative Saito Kazuko also conveyed hopes for long-term continuity. “We hope LeMMI 4.0 can operate independently and become more rooted in Indonesia,” she stated.
