PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) is warning the public to remain alert against the rising threat of digital crimes.
The bank urges the public to protect three types of sensitive personal data: full name, active WhatsApp number, and account balance.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that these data types are often exploited by digital criminals to conduct social engineering.
“Customers need to protect three types of data that we refer to as sensitive data, namely full name, active WhatsApp number, and balance information. These three types of data are very vulnerable to being misused by irresponsible parties to carry out banking crimes,” said Okki.
Criminals Use Familiar Names and Fake Promotions
According to Okki, perpetrators commonly use convincing narratives to trick victims, often by impersonating well-known financial institutions like BNI.
Offers of prizes or promotional programs are frequently used to make the fraud seem official.
“In fact, it is not uncommon for the perpetrators to spread fake links using the name of BNI to obtain sensitive information from potential victims,” he said.
BNI Urges Customers to Verify Information
To counter these tactics, BNI advises customers not to be tempted by instant prize offers. Okki emphasized the importance of verifying any information before responding to individuals claiming to represent the bank.
“We invite all customers to remain vigilant. Do not hesitate to confirm any information with BNI Call 1500046 or through our official website. Better to be cautious than to become a victim,” added Okki.
Use Only Official Channels for Secure Access
As a preventive step, BNI reminds customers to access banking information only through official channels such as the BNI website and the wondr by BNI application. These platforms provide secure and trusted services.
