NTT Data Plans Major Data Center Expansion in Indonesia Over the Next Three Years

NTT DATA, through its Global Data Centers division, is constructing the Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A) in Indonesia, with completion expected in early 2026. The new facility is designed to meet the growing requirements of hyperscalers and enterprises while supporting the country's expanding digital economy.

Located in central Jakarta, approximately 20 kilometres from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, JKT2A will provide a planned capacity of 12 megawatts (MW) of critical IT load. The seven-story facility will become part of NTT DATA's existing Jakarta 2 campus.

The data center will feature air-cooling systems, physical security measures, and multiple redundant power sources to support operational reliability and continuous availability.

The development is part of NTT DATA's global investment programme of more than US$10 billion in data center growth between 2023 and 2027, covering key markets worldwide.

Doug Adams, CEO and President of Global Data Centers at NTT DATA, said the project reinforces the company's position in Indonesia as it expands its global data center network to address increasing demand.

"The launch of the new JKT2A underscores our leadership position in the country, as we grow our global data center footprint to meet the increasing demand," Adams said.

He added that NTT DATA aims to provide flexible facility designs that help customers achieve their business objectives while delivering the critical data capacity required to support Indonesia's digital economy.

Indonesia's Growing Digital Economy Drives Data Center Demand

The development of JKT2A expands NTT DATA's existing presence in Jakarta, complementing its JKT2 and JKT3 campuses. Indonesia has become one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the region as demand for digital infrastructure increases.

The country's large population and rising digital activity have contributed to a significant increase in digital traffic. Key drivers include the growth of start-ups, electronic transactions, and digital content consumption.

NTT DATA's Global Data Centers division currently operates more than 17 data centers across seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Its facilities provide more than 278MW of critical IT load, with over 60MW of additional capacity planned.

The company is also the second-largest data center provider in Jakarta.

Yasuhiro Kajiki, President Director of Global Data Centers Indonesia at NTT DATA and PT NTT Indonesia, said the new facility would help address growing customer requirements, particularly as businesses deploy next-generation artificial intelligence solutions and expand regional connectivity.

"The launch of Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center is a significant step towards meeting the growing demands of our clients as they deploy next generation AI solutions and expand interconnectivity throughout the region," Kajiki said.

He added that the additional data center capacity would address immediate customer needs while providing a foundation for future technological advancements and innovation.

Kajiki also highlighted the company's commitment to supporting digitalization in Indonesia through infrastructure that contributes to economic growth, innovation, and connectivity.

Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center to Strengthen Network and Cloud Connectivity

JKT2A will serve as a network hub, hosting several major network services, including NTT's Global IP Network (GIN), JKT-IX, the APRICOT Submarine Cable, and direct connections to major public cloud services.

The Jakarta 2 campus already has connections to more than 150 telecommunications companies, internet service providers, and fibre-optic providers. It also hosts major cloud infrastructure providers and financial services, including digital payment gateways.

In addition, the campus has multiple direct fibre connections to NTT DATA's larger Jakarta 3 Data Center in Bekasi, a suburb of Jakarta.

Through its carrier-neutral policy, NTT DATA allows customers to access services from multiple network providers. This approach gives businesses flexibility in selecting network services based on their operational requirements.

The network environment will also enable customers to choose a range of information and communications technology services, including managed hybrid cloud, network management, and collaboration solutions.

NTT DATA Offers Renewable Energy Options at Jakarta Data Center Campus

The Jakarta 2 data center campus will provide customers with access to 100% renewable energy options. This initiative supports NTT DATA's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions from its own operations.

The company's environmental target includes sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030.

The JKT2A development is also part of NTT DATA's broader global data center expansion strategy. Through its Global Data Centers division, the company operates more than 150 data centers across over 20 countries and markets.

As part of its ongoing expansion, NTT DATA has announced the development of two new data center campuses in Europe, located in Paris and Berlin. The company has also launched new data centers in Noida and Chennai, India.

The Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center will further expand the company's infrastructure capacity in Indonesia as it addresses growing demand from hyperscalers and enterprise customers.
