GoTo Financial's Migration to Alibaba Cloud: Enhancing Service Efficiency and Data Sovereignty

GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO) has officially completed the migration of GoTo Financial's core infrastructure to Alibaba Cloud’s data center in Jakarta.

This strategic migration marks a pivotal milestone in the partnership between GOTO and Alibaba Cloud, which began in September 2024.

"This achievement strengthens the core infrastructure supporting GoTo Financial services," said Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Group, in a press release on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

GoTo Financial, the digital finance arm behind GoPay, currently serves approximately 20 million users in Indonesia.

The company aims to simplify operations, reduce overhead costs, and improve overall service efficiency through this migration.

Strengthening Indonesia’s Data Sovereignty

Patrick emphasized that the completion of this transition underlines GOTO’s firm commitment to data sovereignty, with all user data now stored within Indonesian borders.

The move aligns with Indonesia’s regulatory direction, which increasingly favors localized data storage for digital service providers operating in the country.

Seamless Execution of Large-Scale Digital Transformation

Alibaba Cloud’s Regional General Manager for South Pacific & Japan, Sean Yuan, highlighted the technical scale of the project, describing it as one of the most complex digital infrastructure migrations in the country.

“We’re proud to partner with GoTo in shaping Indonesia’s digital future and look forward to deeper collaboration ahead,” Yuan stated.

The migration covered the transition of GoTo Financial's core applications to the cloud environment and required highly stable systems capable of handling massive concurrent transaction volumes.

Technical Collaboration and Innovation at Scale

The GoTo and Alibaba Cloud teams co-developed full-stack technical solutions to maintain continuous business operations and ensure a seamless user experience throughout the migration process.

To support this, Alibaba Cloud deployed a suite of proprietary tools, including Landing Zone and Terraform, enabling a 100% Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment.

This laid the groundwork for a highly scalable microservices environment.

Traffic migration to the new cloud system was conducted using a dual-core architecture, allowing for a gradual transition without impacting end-users.

Leveraging Local Cloud Infrastructure and Security

GoTo’s new cloud architecture benefits from Alibaba Cloud’s three data centers in Indonesia.

It also integrates advanced products across computing, containerization, database, networking, and security services.

This enables the creation of a cost-efficient, reliable, automated, and secure cloud infrastructure to support the needs of GoTo Financial’s growing user base.
