Polytron Expands Into EVs With Domestic Production Focus

Polytron, a prominent Indonesian electronics company, is gearing up to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market with its first electric SUV in 2025. The vehicle is set to be locally assembled at a new Polytron factory, highlighting the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing, based on reports from Kompas.com.

Speaking at an event in Jakarta on January 21, Tekno Wibowo, Commercial Director of Polytron, mentioned that the development of this EV is part of the company’s broader mission to support the government’s minimum local content requirement, known as Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri (TKDN).

“Our focus is on meeting the government’s 40% local content standard,” Tekno stated. He emphasized that the company is leveraging local suppliers for critical components, including batteries, which are now being sourced domestically.

Polytron’s electric SUV will cater to Indonesia's high demand for SUVs, reflecting local market preferences. Tekno explained, “SUVs are very popular among Indonesians, and we aim to develop a platform that fulfills this demand while adhering to local regulations.”

Although Polytron has been tight-lipped about specific details of its EV factory, further announcements are expected after the Eid holiday later this year. Tekno also hinted at collaborations with international companies for research and development, ensuring the EVs meet global standards.

In addition to its EV plans, Polytron’s broader strategy focuses on maintaining high product quality, supporting sustainability, and expanding its distribution network. The company’s current market presence spans over 1,000 sub-dealers and 61 service centers across 14 provinces in Indonesia.

Polytron’s entry into the EV market also aims to make electric vehicles more affordable through government tax incentives. The company is positioning its products to be both innovative and cost-competitive, thereby fostering wider adoption of sustainable technologies in the country.

Polytron’s commitment to local production aligns with its longstanding reputation as a leader in the Indonesian electronics industry. As the company celebrates its 50th anniversary in September 2025, it continues to innovate and contribute to national economic growth through its diverse product lineup, which includes home appliances, audio-visual equipment, and electric vehicles.
