Indonesia-India Business Forum to Focus on Strategic Sectors

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is set to lead a delegation of 100 national entrepreneurs to the Indonesia-India Business Forum (CEO Forum) and Business Matching event in New Delhi, India, from January 24 to 28, 2025. This initiative aims to bolster economic ties and explore collaborative opportunities between the two nations.

Strategic Focus Areas

The delegation's discussions will center on five key sectors identified as strategic for mutual growth:

  1. Agriculture and Food: Exploring sustainable agricultural practices and food security initiatives.
  2. Healthcare Services: Collaborating on medical technologies and healthcare infrastructure.
  3. Clean Energy: Advancing renewable energy projects and environmental sustainability.
  4. Manufacturing: Enhancing industrial capabilities and supply chain efficiencies.
  5. Technology: Fostering innovation and digital transformation partnerships.

These sectors are deemed to have significant potential for impactful cooperation and sustainable investment. Bernardino Moningka Vega, Kadin's Vice Chairman for Foreign Relations, emphasized the importance of these areas, stating that the outcomes of the CEO Forum will be reported to the heads of state of both countries as key sectors for business collaboration.

Historical Context and Future Prospects

This forum builds upon the collaboration between Kadin Indonesia and The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which began with the CEO Forum in Jakarta in 2018. The initial focus was on manufacturing, mining, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure. The upcoming forum aims to expand this partnership by introducing new sectors, reflecting the evolving economic landscapes of both nations.

Rico Rustombi, Kadin's Vice Chairman for Infrastructure and Head of the Indonesian Business Delegation at the CEO Forum, highlighted the significance of this event. He noted that the forum would facilitate the signing of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between entrepreneurs from both countries, paving the way for tangible business collaborations.

Implications for Indonesia-India Relations

The Indonesia-India Business Forum is poised to serve as a catalyst for deeper economic integration between the two countries. By focusing on sectors with high growth potential, the forum aims to create a platform for dialogue, partnership, and investment. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance bilateral trade and foster sustainable economic development.

In summary, the upcoming CEO Forum in New Delhi represents a significant step toward strengthening Indonesia-India economic relations. Through strategic collaboration in key sectors, both nations aim to unlock new opportunities and drive mutual prosperity.
