BYD Accelerates Completion of Electric Vehicle Factory in Indonesia by 2025

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Build Your Dream (BYD) is fast-tracking the construction of its production facility in Indonesia. Initially scheduled for completion in 2026, the Subang, West Java factory is now expected to be operational by late 2025.

Liu Xueliang, BYD’s General Manager for Asia-Pacific, stated that the accelerated timeline underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. "The construction of BYD’s factory in Indonesia will be among the fastest, typically taking 10 to 16 months," Liu said on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Once operational in early 2026, the plant will boost BYD’s capacity for domestic and export markets. It will also support battery and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) development, ensuring alignment with Indonesia’s renewable energy goals.

Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Industrial Downstreaming, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, confirmed the government’s support for BYD. This includes infrastructure development, such as connecting roads between industrial zones and ports, alongside incentives for EV manufacturers.

BYD’s investment is expected to generate over 18,000 jobs, enhancing local workforce skills in the EV and renewable energy sectors. Liu highlighted the company's plans to introduce cutting-edge PHEV technology with a range of up to 2,000 km. “Our products combine electric vehicle efficiency with the convenience of conventional fuels,” he added.

Additionally, BYD announced the launch of its premium EV sub-brand, Denza, in early 2025. This move aims to cater to Indonesia’s growing demand for luxury electric vehicles while complementing the company’s existing product lineup.

The factory and product expansions reflect BYD’s strategic approach to becoming a significant player in Indonesia’s EV market. With government collaboration and advanced technology, BYD is poised to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global electric mobility landscape.
