The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is exploring collaboration on solar photovoltaic technology with U.S.-based SEG Solar Inc. (26/2). Through the Electronics and Informatics Research Organization (OREI), BRIN welcomed company representatives to discuss research and manufacturing cooperation in Indonesia.
OREI Hosts SEG Solar Delegation
Budi Prawara, head of OREI-BRIN, welcomed the visit and presented developments in Indonesia’s solar photovoltaic sector. He highlighted BRIN’s openness to collaboration and expressed hopes for joint research and activities that can benefit both parties.
Focus Areas in Advanced Photovoltaic and Functional Electronics
Professor Natalita Maulani Nursam, leading solar cell technology research at BRIN, explained ongoing studies at the Advanced Photovoltaic & Functional Electronic Devices Research Group. Research focuses on developing solar cells and future functional electronic devices.
Senior PV expert Shehroz Razzaq described SEG Solar’s research progress from 2021 to 2025, including milestones such as the Ribbon Cutting for House Plant 2024 and Initial Shell Shipment 2025. He proposed structured collaboration between the SEG Global PV Research Institute and Indonesian partners.
“Kami ingin menjalin kolaborasi terstruktur antara SEG Global PV Research Institute dan mitra Indonesia. Salah satunya membentuk Joint Research Steering Committee antara SEG Solar dengan BRIN,” said Razzaq.
SEG Solar also emphasized understanding fundamental PV technology and translating laboratory research into scalable industrial concepts.
Expected Outcomes: Publications, Patents, and Industry Applications
Razzaq outlined the expected results of the collaboration, including joint publications in high-impact journals, co-filed patents, and research outputs that are scientifically novel and applicable in industry.
