Solo-based hacker Bayu Fedra Abdullah (25) developed two cybersecurity tools, Internet Protocol Threat Intelligence (IPTI) and Most Basic Penetration Testing Labs (MBPTL), that have reached international events (18/02).
Fedra, known by his nickname “Fedra,” explained the tools over a phone call.
“Basically, IPTI is a tool to help assess an IP address. It provides detailed information about a specific IP,” he said.
IPTI: Advanced IP Threat Intelligence Tool
IPTI collects various information behind an IP address and generates a risk score to show whether the IP is safe or dangerous.
“The output helps decide whether an IP address is safe or harmful,” Fedra added.
The tool identifies the server provider and other factors to help determine IP safety. It also aids monitoring of user access.
“Sometimes users are bots, which might be good, but some could be malicious. Each uses their own IP address. IPTI helps distinguish which IPs are harmful, aiding monitoring teams without manual checks,” he explained.
Fedra said IPTI development began simply but became more advanced as he challenged himself.
“If an attacker knows how the tool works, it’s easy to bypass. I thought about ways to counter that and developed the tool further,” he recalled.
IPTI took about one week to develop.
MBPTL: Comprehensive Learning Platform for Cybersecurity
MBPTL was created to help people learn cybersecurity comprehensively. The initial idea took three days to a week to develop.
“Typically, beginners start with DVBA (Damn Vulnerable Web Application), which focuses on web apps. But cybersecurity covers many domains,” Fedra said.
MBPTL addresses this gap while remaining suitable for beginners.
“Beginners who start with DVBA may only learn about web application security. I wondered if hacking was only this, so I created MBPTL,” he added.
He said the platform is still being developed to improve its usability for beginners.
“All it really needs is feedback. Any ideas that can make this platform better and easier for beginners are welcome,” Fedra said.
From Concept to International Conferences
Both IPTI and MBPTL were presented at international conferences, including BlackHat Europe and BlackHat MEA, demonstrating Fedra’s work in practical cybersecurity tools.
