Ministry of Industry Fast‑Tracks Halal Certification for Local Businesses to Strengthen National Industrial Growth

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is accelerating halal certification for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to strengthen Indonesia’s halal industry ecosystem (20/01).

Through the Banjarbaru Center for Standardization and Industrial Services (BSPJI), the ministry facilitated halal certification for 232 SMEs in South Kalimantan during 2025.

The initiative aims to improve business competitiveness and ensure halal compliance for products circulating in the market.

Halal Certification as a Strategic Industrial Tool

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that halal certification is a strategic instrument for strengthening the national industry.

“The government is committed to accelerating halal certification as part of strengthening national industrial competitiveness. Halal certificates not only meet regulatory obligations but also increase product value, expand market access, and strengthen consumer trust, both in domestic and global markets,” he said in Jakarta (20/01).

BSPJI Banjarbaru: Accredited Main Halal Inspection Body

The halal certification facilitation is conducted by BSPJI Banjarbaru’s Halal Inspection Body (LPH), which has been accredited as a Main LPH by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH). Its scope covers food and beverage products at both national and international levels.

This program aligns with Kemenperin’s policy to strengthen technical units as frontline industrial service providers in regional areas.

Promoting Standards and Sustainable Halal Practices

Emmy Suryandari, Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), stated that a strong halal industry ecosystem requires consistent application of standards and sustainable quality systems.

“Through halal certification facilitation, we encourage industries not only to obtain certificates but also to consistently implement halal product assurance principles. This is in line with efforts to improve product quality through SNI standards and international-based management systems,” she explained.

Cross-Institution Collaboration Supports SMEs

The program’s success is supported by collaboration with multiple institutions, including the Halal Industry Empowerment Center (PIH), Kemenperin, BAZNAS, Bank Indonesia, local governments in South Kalimantan, and CSR support from PT Borneo Indobara.

BSPJI Banjarbaru Head Oktaviyanto Jimat Wibowo added that the certification process involves comprehensive steps, from halal assurance training and document assistance to product audits by qualified halal auditors.

“We ensure SMEs receive full guidance to sustainably apply halal principles in production. With its capacity as a Main LPH, BSPJI Banjarbaru is ready to serve various product and service scopes,” he said.

As a Main Halal Inspection Body, BSPJI Banjarbaru’s scope includes food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer goods, chemical and biological products, and related services.

The program supports Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance and government policies to accelerate halal certification, especially for SMEs, enabling them to participate in national and global industrial supply chains.
