WIFI's Strategic Alliance with TBIG and CENT to Expand Broadband Access in Java, Papua, and Maluku

PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), known as Surge, is partnering with PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG) and PT Centratama Menara Indonesia Tbk (CENT) to develop Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services in Indonesia.

The collaboration follows WIFI’s subsidiary, PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama, winning a government auction to use the 1.4 GHz radio frequency for Regional I, covering Java, Papua, and Maluku.

1.4 GHz Frequency Enables Affordable Broadband-Equivalent Speeds

WIFI plans to use the 1.4 GHz frequency to launch Fixed Wireless services offering broadband-equivalent speeds with lower implementation costs and higher deployment flexibility.

This frequency is expected to support high-speed internet access of up to 100 Mbps, aligning with government efforts to deliver inclusive digital services.

Tower Access to Accelerate FWA Rollout to 45 Million Households

Shannedy Ong, Director of Solusi Sinergi Digital, stated that TBIG and CENT collectively operate around 50,000 towers, which are ready to support WIFI’s expansion following the frequency win.

“Portofolio menara yang siap digunakan ini akan mendukung penggelaran layanan Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) di wilayah dengan potensi lebih dari 45 juta rumah tangga,” said Shannedy during a public presentation on Tuesday (21/10).

He added that existing infrastructure from Tower Bersama Group and Centratama would allow WIFI to scale its FWA service without building new towers.

Java Identified as a Key Zone for FWA Expansion

According to Shannedy, Java is considered a golden zone due to its high readiness for FWA implementation. The region benefits from an integrated network backbone that increases cost efficiency and accelerates broadband penetration.

WIFI is also preparing potential collaborations with PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL) or Mitratel, and the Protelindo Group, should additional capacity be required.

“Namun, 50.000 site yang tersedia saat ini sudah sangat signifikan untuk mencakup mayoritas populasi di wilayah Jawa, Papua, dan Maluku,” he added.

Targeting Underserved Households with 100 Mbps, Rp100,000 Monthly Plan

WIFI plans to offer home internet packages using FWA technology at 100 Mbps for Rp100,000 per month. The target market includes underserved households that do not currently have access to fixed broadband services.

“Inisiatif FWA ini akan menjadi katalis pertumbuhan menuju target 5 juta home connect, seiring ekspansi layanan FTTH yang kini telah mencapai 1,5 juta homepass dan 830 ribu pelanggan aktif per September 2025,” said Shannedy.

WIFI Builds 5G FWA Ecosystem with Global Technology Partners

WIFI is currently building a full 5G Fixed Wireless Access ecosystem through partnerships with global vendors such as Nokia, Huawei, Orex SAI, Baicells, Fiberhome, Qualcomm, and ESR.

These partnerships are part of WIFI’s strategy to develop an end-to-end solution for delivering high-speed wireless broadband across key regions.
