Government tax revenue from online trade has grown rapidly. From January to August 2025, the government collected Rp 17.4 trillion in taxes from ecommerce activities, a 65 percent increase compared to Rp 10.5 trillion in the same period in 2024.

Ministry of Finance Highlights Online Trade’s Rapid Growth

Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito Abimanyu explained that the trade sector is one of the largest contributors to government tax revenue.

“Online trade grew by 65 percent. This shows how rapid the growth is, even if the size is still small,” said Abimanyu during the "APBN Kita" briefing on Monday, September 22, 2025.

Online Platforms Remain a Small Part of Total Trade Tax

Despite strong growth, tax revenue from online trade remains a small portion of the total. The government collected Rp 333.38 trillion from the trade sector from January to August 2025, marking a 3 percent increase from the same period in 2024. On average, monthly tax revenue from trade reached Rp 41.7 trillion.

Trade Sector’s Contribution to Overall Tax Revenue

The trade sector contributed 23.1 percent of total tax revenue during the first eight months of 2025. The manufacturing sector remains the largest contributor, accounting for 27.1 percent of total tax receipts.
