AI for Industry, Government, and MSMEs: Telkom’s Bold Vision for a Digital Indonesia

PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) officially launched the Telkom AI Center of Excellence during the 10th edition of the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) 2025 at the Bali International Convention Center.

Led by Director of Enterprise & Business Service Veranita Yosephine and Director of IT Digital Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, this initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across sectors in Indonesia through a strategic platform under Telkom Solution.

The launch reinforces TelkomGroup’s role as a digital transformation enabler across industries and supports the national agenda for digital reform through AI-based technology.

A Strategic Move to Build a National AI Ecosystem

Telkom AI Center of Excellence is designed to support the digitalization of government, strengthen industry competitiveness, and empower local talent.

The initiative involves collaboration across education institutions, private and public sectors, startups, and global AI solution providers.

Veranita Yosephine stated that Telkom’s AI Center of Excellence is a strategic step to build a comprehensive national AI ecosystem.

She emphasized that products developed will be customized to market needs.

“With capabilities in technology and the largest market access in the enterprise segment—from private industry and government to MSMEs—Telkom will act as a business partner in providing solutions tailored to customer needs and characteristics, so that they can deliver concrete impact,” said Veranita.

The initiative received positive responses from business leaders across industries, recognizing its potential to strengthen national competitiveness.

Four Foundational Pillars Driving AI Innovation

The AI Center of Excellence is supported by four key pillars:

  • AI Campus: A platform for collaboration with universities, including ITB, ITS, Telkom University, Universitas Brawijaya, and others.
  • AI Playground: A space for research and practical exploration.
  • AI Connect: A forum linking practitioners, startups, and businesses.
  • AI Hub: A pillar dedicated to real-world solutions for various industry sectors.

These four components are designed to create sustainable innovation, drive digital connectivity, and enhance collaboration between Telkom and its stakeholders.

Empowering Talent and Supporting Digital Reform

Director Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi emphasized that the AI Center of Excellence aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda, which highlights AI as a tool to improve public service processes and national efficiency.

“We believe the Telkom Indonesia AI Center of Excellence can become a center for development, collaboration, and AI implementation to drive digitalization in government and industrial transformation in Indonesia,” said Faizal.

PWC projects that AI will contribute up to USD 15.7 trillion to global GDP by 2030. A report from Goldman Sachs estimates a 15% increase in labor productivity through AI adoption.

This highlights AI's potential to transform industrial operations and reshape future workforce dynamics.

Support also came from government officials and business executives. Head of the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute, Hendrar Prihadi, noted the relevance of AI for improving public services.

Salman Subakat, CEO of Paragon Corp, highlighted the importance of AI in maintaining the relevance of the consumer goods industry in a global context.

“AI can accelerate development in many aspects, bring change, and this is the biggest momentum for Indonesia to build a globally competitive ecosystem. I admire Telkom for its noble mission to unite Indonesia. Together, we build a strong foundation for improvement,” said Salman.

AI BigBox: Scalable AI Platform with Real-World Applications

Telkom’s AI Center of Excellence also features AI BigBox, a platform that supports institutions, businesses, and MSMEs in optimizing operations and increasing productivity.

AI BigBox offers capabilities in analytics, machine learning, large language models (LLM), and natural language processing (NLP).

It includes a chatbot virtual assistant that can handle more than 300,000 conversations per hour.

The platform also supports e-KYC, enabling efficient identity verification processes, and enhances cybersecurity by detecting more than 130,000 cyberattacks per month.

Telkom continues to strengthen its digital capabilities, AI infrastructure, and technology platforms to support ongoing innovation and serve as an enabler of Indonesia’s AI ecosystem.
