What Is KINETIK Nex? Australia's New Program Boosts Climate Innovation in Makassar

The Australian Government has officially launched the KINETIK Nex program in Makassar to support entrepreneurship and climate innovation, through a strategic initiative facilitated by the Australian Consulate-General.

Australian Consul General Todd Dias, who inaugurated the program, said it aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) while encouraging local climate solutions.

The launch was hosted in collaboration with the Makassar City Government, which has accommodated 15 selected startups as part of the program.

“This program is fully supported by the Makassar City Government as host for the 15 selected entrepreneurs,” said Todd Dias.

He also expressed appreciation for Makassar’s warm reception and emphasized the significance of Makassar being chosen as the launch location for the initiative.

Strategic Collaboration with Makassar City Government

Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin, who attended the launch, underscored the importance of collaboration across strategic sectors between Makassar and the Australian Government.

These sectors include entrepreneurial development, waste management, and the transition to clean energy.

“Makassar is the gateway to Eastern Indonesia. As a major city, we must not only improve internally but also present ourselves attractively at the national and international level,” said Munafri.

He noted Makassar’s openness to partnerships, particularly with the Australian Government, in driving innovation and sustainable development in the region.

Funding Support for Promising Startups

As part of the program, the Australian Government will provide Rp1.6 billion in funding for the top five startups among the fifteen selected.

These businesses will also receive mentorship and support through the KINETIK Nex incubation platform managed by the Australian Consulate-General in Makassar.

“I hope this program delivers maximum results for the entrepreneurs and opens broader access to funding,” said Munafri.

The event featured a photo session with the Consul General, the Mayor, and the participating startups, marking the beginning of a new phase of bilateral collaboration focused on innovation and climate action.
