Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has announced the formation of an internal evaluation team to reform governance practices in the National Data Center Project.
The move comes as part of the Ministry’s response to an ongoing legal investigation into the project.
"The Ministry fully supports the legal process, and we are immediately forming an internal evaluation team to conduct a comprehensive review of the data center project’s governance," said Minister Meutya Hafid during a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (22/5).
Her statement followed the Attorney General's naming of five suspects in the case, including a former official from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.
Ministry Suspends Two Employees Named as Suspects
Two current Komdigi employees were among the suspects named by prosecutors. Meutya confirmed the Ministry has taken administrative action.
"Regarding the two Komdigi employees who have been named as suspects, we have suspended them from their roles and responsibilities to respect the ongoing legal proceedings," she said.
Emphasis on Integrity and Public Interest
Minister Meutya stressed that the case must not hinder Indonesia’s efforts to maintain digital sovereignty. She emphasized the importance of ensuring public funds are used effectively and with transparency.
"This incident is a critical reminder that digital institutions must be built on a foundation of integrity. We see this as a moment to strengthen internal oversight, improve procedures, and enforce accountability at all levels," said Meutya.
She underlined that integrity must remain the core principle in managing digital projects and public budgets.
Reforming Digital Governance Frameworks
Meutya affirmed that recent developments highlight the urgency of reforming governance systems in digital institutions. She described the Ministry’s approach as a necessary step forward.
"Governance reform in the digital sector is not an option it is a necessity," Meutya stated.
