The Indonesian government continues to prioritize equal access to digital connectivity in Papua.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that this effort follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to accelerate digital infrastructure development in six provinces across Papua.
“From October 20, 2024, to May 15, 2025, we have connected 1,705 locations in the six provinces of Papua through digital connectivity provided by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs,” Patria said during a visit to the Navy Post Office building (Posal Skouw Sae) in Jayapura on Wednesday (21/5).
351 Locations Connected Through 4G BTS with Over 84% Service Availability
Of the 1,705 total connected locations, 351 are linked via 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS). These sites provide an average service availability of 84.24% as of May 10, 2025.
The remaining 1,354 locations include schools, health facilities, village offices, places of worship, military and police posts, markets, and small and medium enterprises.
Patria said these public service points are now connected to the internet.
“Key public service locations are now enjoying internet access, with an average service quality of 89.5% as of April 2025,” he explained.
Equal Access to Digital Connectivity as a Government Priority
Patria emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all citizens, including those in Papua, have the same rights to digital connectivity.
“As we witness today in Papua, this commitment is realized through a process of digital transformation to promote inclusive productivity and growth,” he said.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has deployed SATRIA-1 and 4G BTS infrastructure to support digital access in remote and outermost regions.
“The presence of SATRIA-1 and BTS 4G accelerates the equal distribution of connectivity, especially in geographically challenging areas like Papua,” Patria said.
