China-based battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech is increasing its presence in Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) sector. The company now operates two facilities in Bogor and Cikarang, focusing on battery pack assembly for EVs.
“Most of our business is business-to-business. Our target consumers are EV manufacturers,” said Lin Wenxiang, Sales and Marketing Manager at PT Gotion Indonesia Materials, during the PEVS 2025 event in Jakarta, Friday (2/5).
Battery Packs for Geely and Xpeng Set to Launch in 2025
Gotion is preparing to supply battery packs for Geely and Xpeng, two new EV brands expected to begin vehicle sales in Indonesia in 2025. According to Lin, Geely is scheduled to start in August, with Xpeng following toward the end of 2025.
“The cell is still manufactured and produced in China. From China, we send the cells here. We only do the packing in Indonesia,” Lin explained. The company assembles battery packs locally using imported battery cells from China.
Gotion Already Supplies Batteries for Leading Chinese EV Brands
Gotion’s batteries are already used by several Chinese EV brands active in Indonesia. “Our brand now with the most units is Wuling, because they’ve been here the longest,” Lin stated. Other brands using Gotion batteries include Neta, DFSK, and Chery.
“New entrants are coming, but they haven’t started yet,” Lin said. “Geely and Xpeng will begin soon. Most of the EVs in Indonesia already use our batteries.”
Driving the EV Battery Ecosystem from Upstream to Downstream
Through its various entities and strategic partnerships, Gotion is contributing to the development of Indonesia’s EV ecosystem from upstream to downstream. The company’s presence goes beyond investment, it plays an active role in shaping the infrastructure and supply chain of the EV battery industry in the country.
