CEO of Anantarupa Studios, Ivan Chen, has issued a public apology regarding delayed salary payments to company employees. The statement was shared via his Instagram account @ivanthearcht on Saturday, April 19.
“First, I want to apologize to everyone who feels harmed because Anantarupa has not fulfilled its obligations. This is my responsibility and entirely my fault. But I remain here, trying to resolve all of this,” Ivan wrote.
Employees Report Delayed Payments and Unclear Promises
Reports have surfaced that Anantarupa Studios failed to pay employee salaries for several months and did not fulfill promises related to the 2024 holiday bonus (THR).
Some employees stated they only received part of their salaries in December 2024. The remaining salary and THR were promised for payment in February 2025 but had not materialized.
Several former employees received only a “debt letter” with no clear repayment schedule, signed solely by the human resources department.
Ivan explained that the company is trying to survive amid economic difficulties, including challenges in fundraising, which led to difficult prioritization decisions.
“We hope to continue receiving support and prayers from friends, so we can find the right solution, method, and partners to fulfill our obligations and continue the company’s dream,” he added.
Developer of Lokapala, Indonesia’s First MOBA Esport
Anantarupa Studios, founded in 2011, is an Indonesian game and digital content developer focused on business-to-business (B2B) solutions, particularly in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
The company is known for developing Lokapala, the first Indonesian-made Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. The game entered the Southeast Asian market in 2023 and became the first regional esport game.
Indonesian Game Association Responds to Complaints
The Indonesian Game Association (AGI) has also responded to the situation. AGI Chairman Shafiq Husein confirmed receiving reports of unpaid salaries dating back to November 2024.
“We already sent an email to the Anantarupa team to help them address the issue internally. They have responded and can be contacted,” said Shafiq during the launch of the Google Play x Unity 2025 Training Program in South Jakarta on Monday, April 21.
Ivan stated that he welcomes open dialogue with all affected parties and emphasized the importance of maintaining a constructive public discourse to support a positive industry ecosystem.
