Fire at Gojek's Blok M Office: Damage Estimated at Rp 100M

A fire broke out at Gojek’s office in Blok M, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (February 19, 2025), causing an estimated loss of Rp 100 million. The incident, which started at 1:16 PM local time, originated from the air handling unit (AHU) panel room on the seventh floor.

According to the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) head, Syamsul Huda, smoke was first detected on the seventh floor, prompting the engineering team to investigate the eighth floor. They identified the fire source in the AHU panel room and immediately attempted to extinguish it using fire extinguishers (APAR).

“The fire was located in the AHU room and was quickly put out using APAR,” Syamsul stated in an official report on Wednesday.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault. Although there were no reported casualties, the damage was estimated to reach Rp 100 million. Firefighters deployed eight units and a total of 30 personnel to control the situation.

“The firefighting operation has concluded. A total of eight units and 30 personnel were mobilized,” Syamsul confirmed.

Gojek, a leading ride-hailing and technology company in Indonesia, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, operations at the affected office are expected to resume after safety assessments and repairs are completed.

This incident highlights the importance of workplace fire safety measures, particularly in commercial buildings with high electrical loads. Authorities continue to urge businesses to ensure regular maintenance of electrical systems to prevent similar occurrences.
