The Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has officially introduced a new concentration in Applied AI in Business. This move marks an important evolution in the curriculum, aligning it more closely with the current demands of the business world.
The launch of this concentration is a continuation of UGM’s previous AI-Preneur focus, but with a refined emphasis on the practical application of AI technologies in business contexts. This strategic shift aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI solutions into the business sector.
A formal partnership was established through the signing of an agreement between the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Kuwat Triyana, and Andi Boediman, the Founder of IDS Digital College, on October 18, 2024. The event was also attended by Dr. Fajar Adikusumo, Vice Dean for Alumni, Cooperation, and Innovation, along with key members of UGM’s Department of Computer Science and Electronics, including Wahyono, Ph.D., and Dr. Andi Dharmawan.
In his statement, Prof. Kuwat emphasized that the Applied AI in Business concentration would provide students with AI skills tailored to the business environment. "The curriculum is designed so that students can participate in internships with business networks linked to IDS Digital College," said Kuwat in a press release sent to journalists on November 5, 2024.
The program also aims to help students earn AI certifications that are relevant to its application in the business world, further strengthening their readiness to face industrial challenges. This initiative is designed to provide students with not just theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving AI-driven business landscape.
Admissions for this new concentration will open for the 2024/2025 spring semester. The program is expected to help graduates more easily transition from academia to the workplace, applying their AI expertise both in their original institutions and in a wider business environment.
