Telkom and IBM Join Forces to Boost AI Capabilities

PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has entered a strategic collaboration with IBM Indonesia to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focuses on delivering innovative AI services tailored to the Indonesian market while accelerating Telkom's development in the AI field.

The MoU was signed by Telkom's Director of Strategic Portfolio, Budi Setyawan Wijaya, and IBM Indonesia’s President Director, Roy Kosasih. “Future AI adoption will grow rapidly alongside Indonesia's digital transformation and the need to boost efficiency and productivity across business and government sectors,” said Budi Setyawan in a statement on January 13, 2025.

According to IDC's 2024 Worldwide AI and Generative AI Spending Guide, AI investments in the Asia-Pacific region are projected to reach $110 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24% between 2023 and 2024.

In Indonesia, a study by Kearney predicts that AI will contribute $366 billion to the national economy by 2030. Furthermore, Ecosystm’s APAC AI Outlook 2025 report reveals that over 54% of companies in the Asia-Pacific region have moved beyond experimenting with AI and are now focused on maximizing its long-term business impacts, such as innovation and revenue growth.

Telkom's infrastructure and IBM's AI expertise offer a comprehensive solution for Indonesia’s market. IBM’s cutting-edge technologies, such as WatsonX, IBM Cloud Pak for Data, AI-Powered Security, and IoT-based services, will strengthen TelkomGroup’s capabilities and service portfolio.

IBM's human-centered AI approach emphasizes ethical data governance and transparent, unbiased technology development. These principles aim to enhance human intelligence, ensure data ownership, and foster trust among users. IBM's commitment to ethical AI aligns with Telkom's vision of building consumer confidence in its AI technologies.

“IBM is ready to collaborate with Telkom. Our expertise in AI ethics and deep understanding of industry-specific use cases will drive technological transformation while fostering economic growth in Indonesia,” said Roy Kosasih, President Director of IBM Indonesia. “We must ensure that AI not only unlocks opportunities but also contributes to a future of shared prosperity.”
