eFishery Releases Inaugural Sustainability Report and Impact Report

In celebration of its 11th anniversary, eFishery has proudly unveiled its first sustainability report alongside the third edition of its impact report. These publications underscore the company’s commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices while highlighting its achievements over the past year. As a leader in technology-driven aquaculture, eFishery is dedicated to enhancing productivity and profitability while fostering professionalism within the industry.

The Sustainability Report, covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023, provides an extensive overview of eFishery’s sustainability initiatives, key performance indicators, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The company emphasizes transparency in its operations and supply chain, encouraging stakeholder engagement in accountability efforts.

Developed according to international sustainability reporting standards, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the report outlines eFishery’s commitment to corporate governance and sustainable finance. It details 12 long-term sustainability goals and ESG scores, reflecting the company’s impact in environmental and social domains. Among its goals, eFishery aims to support 100,000 farmer groups by 2030, initiate a $100 million financing program for farmers by the same year, and mitigate hunger risks for over 1 million people by 2050. In 2023, eFishery achieved a revenue of IDR 10.8 trillion and disbursed over IDR 653 billion through its Kabayan financing program.

“Companies must understand their values and objectives to chart meaningful steps forward. It’s not just about being the largest market player; it’s about taking responsibility and creating a positive impact with every action,” stated Prof. Iman Harymawan, CEO of the Center of Governance, Environmental, Social, and Governance Studies (CEGSS) at Airlangga University. He highlighted eFishery's strong commitment to social initiatives, particularly through the Kabayan program, which provides essential funding for local farmers and promotes sustainable aquaculture growth.

eFishery's sustainability framework has evolved significantly, bolstered by collaborations with research partners. The report’s development began with an assessment against global benchmarks, including evaluations from Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Corporate Knights, S&P, and Sustainalytics across various sectors, including food products and software services. A Double Materiality Assessment was conducted with support from Gadjah Mada University to identify critical topics for eFishery’s focus, evaluating both the financial impacts of sustainability issues and the company’s effects on the environment and communities.

Gibran Huzaifah, CEO and Co-founder of eFishery, emphasized the importance of sustainability for business success. “Our mandate is to improve the lives of farmers through aquaculture and to strengthen the role of technology in enhancing food security,” he said. The CEO affirmed that eFishery's dedication to environmental management and social responsibility is at the core of its operations.

The third edition of the Impact Report illustrates the significant effects of eFishery’s initiatives on farmers. In collaboration with the Economic and Business Research and Training Unit at Gadjah Mada University, eFishery conducted an impact evaluation using a causal inference approach to assess the benefits of its products and services among farmers.

The results showed that using eFishery’s products, including eFisheryKu and Kabayan, led to substantial increases in farmers' income and profitability. Specifically, the combination of these services resulted in a 91% increase in total monthly income, translating to an additional net profit of IDR 19.2 million per month and a profit probability of 28.6%. Even using eFisheryKu alone resulted in a 78% increase in income, with an additional net profit of IDR 11.2 million.

eFishery’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is evident in these reports, which not only demonstrate its dedication to responsible aquaculture but also reflect a broader commitment to transparency and accountability. As eFishery continues to lead in sustainable practices, it invites all stakeholders to join in creating a positive impact for farmers, communities, and the environment.
