Bank Mandiri Account Blocking: OJK Explains Rules Behind Supriyono’s Suspended Account

Bank Mandiri apologized over the temporary blocking of an account belonging to Supriyono, coordinator of the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB), while the Financial Services Authority (OJK) said the suspension of customer transactions has a legal basis under Indonesian regulations (25/08).

Bank Mandiri Explains Supriyono’s Account Blocking

Bank Mandiri said the account blocking was carried out following a request from law enforcement authorities and in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.

The account, owned by Supriyono, was reported to have been blocked on Friday (21/8/2026). According to information circulating publicly, the account contained around Rp80 million in donations from residents for the needs of protest participants.

Bank Mandiri apologized for the inconvenience experienced by the customer through a comment on its official Instagram account on Sunday (23/8/2026).

“Bank Mandiri apologizes for the inconvenience caused to customers regarding the blocking of the account. The blocking was a follow-up to a request from law enforcement authorities and was carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations,” Bank Mandiri said.

The bank also emphasized its commitment to good corporate governance (GCG), compliance, and prudence in providing banking services.

OJK Explains the Legal Basis for Transaction Suspension

OJK Chief Executive for Banking Supervision Dian Ediana Rae said Indonesia has regulations governing the suspension of customer transactions under Law No. 8 of 2010 on the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering Crimes.

OJK also regulates the mechanism for transaction suspension and temporary termination under Article 47 of OJK Regulation No. 8 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorism Financing, and Counter-Proliferation Financing Programs in the Financial Services Sector.

“Similar regulations have also been issued by other stakeholders, including regulations related to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK),” Dian told Infobanknews on 25/08/2026.

According to Dian, Financial Services Providers can suspend transactions when the criteria stipulated in laws and regulations on the prevention and eradication of money laundering are met.

“Among them, Financial Services Providers are required to suspend transactions immediately after receiving an order or request for transaction suspension from PPATK, an investigator, public prosecutor, or judge,” Dian said.

The transaction suspension can last for a maximum of five working days from the time the suspension is implemented.

OJK Investigates the Bank Mandiri Account Case

OJK said it is conducting further investigation into the issue involving the account at Bank Mandiri and is coordinating with the bank’s management and other relevant stakeholders.

“Regarding the issue that has emerged in several reports related to one bank, OJK is paying close attention to the issue and is currently coordinating with the bank’s management,” Dian said.

OJK said that, based on the information currently available, the bank had taken its action by referring to existing regulations.

“We emphasize that if, during the investigation and supervision process, any violation of applicable regulations is found, OJK will take supervisory and follow-up measures according to its authority,” Dian said.

OJK will also ask the bank to continue coordinating and take the necessary steps during the transaction suspension period.

“We will also continue to monitor the follow-up actions taken by the bank, including restoring access to the account if all processes during the period have been completed and a conclusion has been reached,” Dian said.

Civil Society Groups Question the Account Suspension

The Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), together with several civil society organizations, said the account suspension could affect public confidence in the banking industry.

In a joint statement, CELIOS said Supriyono’s account contained around Rp80.9 million from personal funds and public donations intended to support protest participants.

The coalition said the account suspension should have a clear legal basis and procedure. It also called for an explanation of the institution that requested the action, the legal case involved, and the relationship between the account and any alleged criminal offense.

“The issue is not only about Rp80.9 million in one account. If the public sees that banks can hold customers’ money because of pressure from authorities, what is damaged is trust in the security of funds in banks,” the coalition said in its statement on Sunday (23/8/2026).

CELIOS said the banking industry depends heavily on public trust because customers deposit their money with the expectation that it is safe and can be accessed according to their rights.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Indonesia (YLBHI), together with other civil society organizations, also raised concerns over the account suspension in a joint statement dated 24/08/2026.

The coalition said the account contained around Rp80.9 million consisting of personal funds and public donations used for travel, food, accommodation, and other needs of protest participants.

The groups also questioned the use of the term “transaction suspension,” saying that the action had resulted in the customer losing access to the funds during the suspension period.

OJK Says Customer Funds Remain Safe

Dian urged the public to remain calm regarding the handling of the account.

OJK said customer funds deposited in banks remain safe, their confidentiality is protected under the Banking Law, and their deposits are guaranteed by the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

OJK also said the implementation of procedures for protecting customer accounts is part of its supervisory responsibilities.

“OJK fully understands that trust is the main foundation of the financial services industry and understands that incidents such as those reported have raised questions among the public,” Dian said.

Dian said transaction suspension, when carried out for purposes permitted under applicable regulations, is a form of protection rather than a threat to public trust.

“The transaction suspension process is temporary and will end once the investigation process has been completed,” Dian said.

If no criminal offense is found, access to the account should be restored.

The civil society coalition urged Bank Mandiri and relevant authorities to provide an explanation of the basis for the account suspension, including the institution that requested the action and the legal procedures used.
