Four Chinese Technology Firms Commit USD 2.15 Billion Investment in Thailand’s Future Industries

Thailand has secured investment agreements worth around THB 70 billion (approximately USD 2.15 billion) from four leading Chinese technology companies to expand their investments in the country during Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s official visit to China on July 20 (20/07).

Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the agreements are expected to strengthen Thailand’s high-tech manufacturing capabilities and support the country’s ambition to become a regional industrial and technology hub.

Four Chinese Technology Companies Agree to Expand Investment in Thailand

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led a Thai delegation on an investment roadshow in Chengdu, China, to attract foreign investment.

During the visit, the Thai delegation held one-on-one negotiations with four major Chinese companies in electric vehicles and advanced technology: Changan Automobile, InnoLight Technology, Huawei Technologies, and Eoptolink Technology.

The discussions resulted in successful agreements to expand investment in Thailand, according to the finance minister.

Thailand Targets Future Industries Through New Investment Wave

Ekniti said geopolitical conflicts are helping accelerate the relocation of capital from China to ASEAN countries, with Thailand becoming a key investment destination.

He said this movement represents a new investment wave similar to the period in the 1980s when Japanese companies moved capital to Thailand to establish production bases in the Eastern Seaboard, creating a period of economic growth.

However, the current investment shift is focused on future industries, including artificial intelligence technology, electric vehicles, and intelligent robotics.

Thailand Promotes BOI to IPO Strategy for Foreign Technology Firms

Ekniti highlighted a new strategy called “BOI to IPO,” which aims to accelerate investment by helping foreign technology companies with rapid growth move toward listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The strategy is designed to support the expansion of technology companies and encourage greater investment activity in Thailand.

Thailand and China Strengthen Technology and Investment Cooperation

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul paid an official visit to China from July 16 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

During the visit, Anutin held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang and attended the World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference.

Thailand and China agreed to advance their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and strengthen cooperation in investment, technology, the digital economy, security, and efforts to combat transnational crime.

The two countries are also preparing for the 50th anniversary of Thailand-China diplomatic relations in 2027.
