Green Loans Hit Rp96 Trillion as BRI Pushes Renewable Energy and Low-Carbon Economy Transition

Amid growing global awareness of the importance of transitioning toward a green and inclusive economy, sustainable financing has become a key driver for environmentally responsible growth and social resilience. PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its role through sustainability-oriented credit distribution, including MSME financing and support for environmentally friendly sectors across various regions (11/05).

The bank’s initiatives align with its commitment to sustainable development and long-term economic growth.

ESG Principles Fully Integrated Into BRI Business Strategy

During the Financial Performance Press Conference for the First Quarter of 2026 held in Jakarta on April 30, BRI’s Vice President Director Viviana Dyah Ayu R.K. stated that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles have become fully integrated into the company’s business model.

She emphasized that sustainability is a core pillar of long-term value creation, where economic empowerment and environmental preservation are integral parts of BRI’s growth strategy.

According to Viviana, ESG is no longer a separate agenda but has become an essential identity within the institution’s operations.

Social Loan of Rp718.8 Trillion Drives MSMEs and Financial Inclusion

By the end of March 2026, BRI recorded Social Loan financing, known as Kegiatan Usaha Berwawasan Sosial (KUBS), amounting to Rp718.8 trillion, or 53% of its total loan portfolio.

This financing is mainly directed toward MSMEs to accelerate financial inclusion and support job creation across Indonesia.

The initiative reflects the bank’s continued focus on strengthening grassroots economic development through inclusive credit distribution.

Green Loan Supports Renewable Energy and Low-Carbon Economy Transition

BRI also reported Green Loan financing, known as Kegiatan Usaha Berwawasan Lingkungan (KUBL), reaching Rp96.6 trillion, equivalent to 7.1% of total loans.

The funds are allocated to renewable energy, environmentally friendly transportation, green buildings, and other environmentally sustainable sectors.

This financing supports efforts to advance a low-carbon economy and strengthen environmental sustainability initiatives.

Sustainable Wholesale Funding Reinforces Financial Stability

In addition to its lending portfolio, BRI strengthened its liability structure through Sustainable Wholesale Funding development.

As of the first quarter of 2026, this funding reached Rp39.3 trillion, representing 78.2% of the bank’s total wholesale funding.

This development reflects BRI’s continued effort to balance asset growth with sustainable funding strategies.
