Drone Technology for SMEs: 24 Indonesian Small Businesses Innovate with Advanced UAV Solutions Across Sectors

The Ministry of Industry continues to accelerate technology transformation in the industrial sector to increase competitiveness and drive national economic growth, focusing on unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for aerial surveys, mapping, data analysis, and logistics (23/02).

“Utilization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle through drones has now become a crucial service, used by industries in agriculture, plantations, forestry, mining, energy, and other sectors that can streamline production and field monitoring. This advanced technology can produce precise mapping,” said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta.

Drones are primarily used in mapping surveys, providing spatial information such as regional profiles, spatial capacity, demographics, potential areas, and other relevant data displayed online. Users can monitor their areas in detail through aerial views.

Government Encourages SME Participation in Drone Services

Minister Agus noted that as industrial technology develops, more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are providing drone technology services. He praised these SMEs for acting as a link for industries, helping them adopt advanced drones in their production processes.

The Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA) consistently mentors SMEs in drone services to enhance competitiveness and expand market reach.

“Currently, 24 small and medium enterprises in drone technology services are under our guidance, covering internal capacity building, market access, and product development,” said IKMA Director General Reni Yanita.

From 5–6 February 2026, the Director General visited SME drone companies in Yogyakarta, including CV AMX UAV Technologies, PT Inderaja Teknik Indonesia, PT Karya Solusi Angkasa, PT Aerotek Global Inovasi, and PT Inovasi Solusi Transportasi Indonesia.

“Kemenperin strives to accelerate these startups as providers of technology solutions for industry and society. Their products, both drones and software, must be directly implementable by industrial players, including SMEs,” Reni added.

Training, Certifications, and Exhibitions Strengthen SMEs

IKMA has provided mentorship through the Directorate of Metal, Machinery, Electronics, and Transportation SMEs, including Startup for Industry programs (Tech Link - Investment Summit and mentoring, 2023–2024), domestic content certification (TKDN 2024), and ISO 9001 facilitation (2024).

SMEs also participated in events such as the Manufacturing Indonesia Series (MFI 2024), TechPlanter with Leave a Nest Japan (2024), Gebyar IKMA 2024, and the China-BRICS Science and Innovation Incubation Park (2025).

“With this support, SME drone companies are more exposed to the broader industrial ecosystem, able to network, and form potential collaborations with industrial players, educational institutions, and strategic partners relevant to SME solutions,” said Reni.

Dini Hanggandari, Director of IKM LMEAA, added that participation in exhibitions allows SMEs to interact with visitors, obtain industry feedback, and explore real-world applications of drone technology. MFI 2024 helped strengthen business direction and product development while preparing SMEs to contribute more broadly to the industrial ecosystem.

SME Drone Companies Offer Specialized Products Across Sectors

PT Inovasi Solusi Transportasi Indonesia produces Frogs Indonesia drones, including passenger drones, spray drones, surveillance drones, cargo drones, and mapping drones. Their products are used in more than 21 provinces and 61 cities or regencies.

PT Karya Solusi Angkasa manufactures drones for agriculture, with manual or automatic control, made of carbon composite, rain-resistant, and equipped for emergency situations. The company also provides maintenance and spare parts services.

PT Aerotek Global Inovasi produces Beehive drones, capable of accurate data collection. Their drones have been used for pollination in oil palm plantations and firefighting missions with precise fire-extinguishing capabilities.

PT Inderaja Teknik Indonesia focuses on remote sensing technology for aerial, underwater, and underground mapping, including tunnels.

CV AMX UAV Technologies develops drones for aerial photography, industrial planning, mapping, and agricultural management, including soil nutrition and moisture monitoring.
