Indonesian SMEs Go Digital: Tokopedia–TikTok Shop Train 200 UMKM in Central Java

Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, together with the Banjarnegara Government, trained 200 local UMKM to create video content for business growth through Creators Lab (29/11). This initiative is part of the Ministry of UMKM’s program, Juragan UMKM, aimed at empowering small businesses to improve sales and contribute to Indonesia’s digital economy.

Creators Lab Enhances Digital Skills and Sales

Senior Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce Indonesia, Vonny Ernita Susamto, said, "Through Creators Lab, we provide UMKM with skills to create videos, including short videos and livestreaming, to accelerate their business growth." She added that some sellers’ transactions rose 30 times through livestreaming and 31 times through short video content.

The number of participants in Creators Lab during Q3 2025 tripled compared to the previous year, showing strong interest in video-based e-commerce. Since its introduction last year, the program has empowered nearly 3,000 participants, including home-based entrepreneurs, students, and community groups. Participants also learn about video content monetization and affiliate marketing principles.

UMKM’s Role in Indonesia’s Digital Economy

Ari Hanindya Hartika, Deputy Assistant for Marketing and Digitalization at the Ministry of UMKM, stated, "UMKM contribute 61.9% to national GDP and employ about 97% of the workforce. We appreciate Tokopedia and TikTok Shop’s commitment to increasing digital adoption among UMKM, supporting comfortable selling, and benefiting consumers."

Indonesia’s digital economy reached IDR 1,497 trillion in 2024 and is projected to grow to IDR 6,654 trillion by 2030. However, as of July 2024, only 24.9% of 64.2 million UMKM are digitally connected, showing significant growth potential.

Impact on Creators Lab Participants

Pearly Nurhasnah, owner of Lumina Pearl Gallery, said, "Through video content, we can better explain our brand and products, creating a safe shopping experience. Sales on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop increased 200–350% compared to before creating videos."

Winda Muchni Lestari, owner of Cemilanel, added, "TikTok Shop allowed me to earn billions of rupiah and empower 350 villagers. Now, Creators Lab has enhanced my understanding of intellectual property, from using photos to product descriptions. I am also interested in upgrading my shop to Power Shop or Mall status for more credibility and professional appearance."

Donations Support Local Communities

Tokopedia and TikTok Shop also contributed donations collected from users via Rumah Zakat to support landslide victims in Pandanarum, Banjarnegara. Donations included household items and essential goods, reflecting the platforms’ commitment to social responsibility alongside UMKM empowerment.
