In a significant move aimed at accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation, GoTo Group has announced a strategic partnership with Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud. The collaboration was officially marked during the Indonesia-China Business Forum, with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in attendance. This agreement represents a major investment in Indonesia’s cloud infrastructure and digital talent development, positioning the country to be a leader in Southeast Asia’s digital economy.
Major Investments in Cloud Infrastructure
Tencent Cloud has committed to investing US$ 500 million to establish its third Internet Data Center (IDC) in Indonesia. This expansion is part of a broader plan to enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure by 2030. The new data center will not only boost cloud service capabilities but also play a crucial role in ensuring the security and sovereignty of data for Indonesian users. Tencent’s decision to further expand in Indonesia reflects its long-term commitment to supporting the country’s digital transformation.
Similarly, Alibaba Cloud, already operating three data centers in Indonesia, is poised to further strengthen its presence. The company plans to train 800,000 individuals in cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) by 2033, as part of a concerted effort to build a highly skilled digital workforce in the country. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud will establish a skills center at Universitas Indonesia, providing essential training and resources for the next generation of Indonesian tech talent.
Enhancing Digital Inclusivity and Empowering MSMEs
A key focus of the partnership between GoTo, Tencent, and Alibaba is to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. GoTo Group, which already has a robust digital platform, will leverage this collaboration to provide MSMEs with access to secure cloud services, cutting-edge technology, and data analytics tools. This initiative aims to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs, enabling them to scale and thrive in the digital age.
Both Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud bring substantial expertise in data analytics, AI, and cybersecurity, which will be critical in supporting GoTo’s expanding user base. These capabilities are essential for building resilient digital ecosystems that can handle the growing demands of Indonesia’s diverse economy. The enhanced infrastructure will also ensure data sovereignty, allowing the country to maintain control over its critical digital assets.
Leadership Commitment to Indonesia’s Digital Future
Leaders from the three companies expressed their strong commitment to Indonesia’s future. Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Tencent Cloud International, emphasized Tencent’s dedication to contributing to Indonesia’s ongoing digital journey. Meanwhile, Sean Yuan, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud International, reaffirmed Alibaba Cloud’s belief in Indonesia’s potential as a key market in Southeast Asia. Their collective efforts align with GoTo Group’s vision of nurturing local digital talent, driving innovation, and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Group, highlighted the importance of this partnership in solidifying Indonesia’s position as a leader in Southeast Asia’s digital economy. He emphasized that this collaboration would not only ensure the security and resilience of GoTo’s platforms but also foster an environment of growth, innovation, and digital inclusion.
As GoTo, Tencent, and Alibaba work together to strengthen Indonesia’s digital ecosystem, this partnership is set to lay the groundwork for a future-ready Indonesia, capable of competing in the global digital landscape.
